Great holiday Cottage, we visited with our 5 year old twin boys and they loved it! Collecting conkers on the estate grounds and hunting for sticks, their imaginations ran wild! Nice cafe across the courtyard and lovely little play ground! We enjoyed walking around the grounds, several trails to take your pick. Cottage was spotless and had everything we needed, the wood burner was great to come back to! Will definitely have a return visit!

Error made in checking in. Cottage had not been made ready (cleaned), whilst our money was happily refunded it did put us in a position of trying to find something else at the end of the day after a long drive. Also, even had the cottage been prepared, it is really well past needing a good spring clean.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Unfortunately, an error was made by Cottages.com who act as our booking agent for our holiday cottages. We do not accept bookings of fewer than three nights and Cottages.com should not have accepted this one-night booking for our property. This guest arrived shortly after previous guests had checked out and before our cleaner had been in, meaning that the cottage was found as it had been left by the previous occupants. We always ensure that our cottages are well presented and you will see from other review comments that other guests have found the cottage to be ‘immaculately clean’. We can only apologise that we were unable to accommodate this customer due to the booking error. We have discussed this with Cottages.com who have assured us that this situation will not be repeated.

We just had one problem with midges getting into the main bedroom. So we had to hoover the room and window sill and frame

A beautiful little cottage and another fabulous stay here. I came for my 50th and aswell as my teenage daughter, the party also included my adult daughter and significant other, an 18mth and 3 mth baby (there was plenty of room to bring our cots and equipment) The cottage is ALWAYS clean and cosy with a handy welcome hamper of essentials. The estate has a lovely lake and some short walks to enjoy and a well maintained play area for any younger visitors as well as galleries and gift shops. The visitor cafe serves lovely cakes. From around 5pm the visitors are gone and the estate is a peaceful place to relax for the eve....wonderful!! A good base also to visit the many attractions of the borders ..in both Scotland and England...

This was our second visit to Lakeview. We love it for its peace and quiet, particularly in the evening when wandering around the lake hearing nothing but bird song is a delight. If you want that, you accept that the shops are a mile or so away but the proximity of the cafe means one can always get breakfast! There are some downsides. The property is managed from the Douglas estate office in Lanarkshire. The local cleaner is excellent and the state of the property cannot be faulted but perhaps it is not her job to check on equipment. On this occasion we could not find paring or other kitchen knives, an irritant but not insuperable. The main problem is still the bathroom. I agree that the previous wetroom always smelt dank and it was difficult to reach the toilet without walking through the wet floor, once someone had showered. My husbsnd joins those who have complained about the lack of a shaving mirror. I found the aperture to the toilet in the alcove too narrow, squeezing between the basin and the heated towel rail. Perhaps a smaller shower to create more room for the basin would have been better and the shower itself had no grab rail and was slippery but these irritants did not detract from our trip and we look forward to returning.
