The spacious sitting room features a corner sofa and two armchairs. A well-equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher, washing machine, fan oven, hob, and fridge with freezer box, plus dining for four. The king room has a large, fitted cupboard, chairs, and a chest of drawers; the twin room offers a generous wardrobe and seating. Bathrooms include an upstairs bath and a downstairs shower room. The entrance hall provides ample storage. While there’s no garden, the cottage has a private patio and parking for two cars.
Visitors can also wander the Woodland Walk, admire ancient beech and oak trees, spot red squirrels, and explore the atmospheric Tomb Wood. From April to September, the Backhouse Kitchen offers seasonal dishes made from estate-grown produce, homemade baking, and barista coffee.
Set within the historic Rossie Estate, the cottage sits only moments from the remarkable Walled Garden at Backhouse Rossie, where every guest enjoys one free entry*. Here you’ll also find a beautifully designed labyrinth, not a maze with branching paths, but a single, continuous route used since ancient times for reflection, renewal, and spiritual transformation. Medieval monks once walked labyrinths on their knees as an act of penance, symbolising the journey from burden to clarity. The estate’s long-standing tradition of storytelling adds an extra layer of charm: generations ago, brothers Thomas and James Backhouse created garden paths for a local museum whose zoo housed everything from a swan to a python, and even a “Big Bear” who was known to pull faces and chase visitors. Lonely for his family, he was eventually rehomed to London Zoo in 1831, where it was hoped a change of scenery might brighten his spirits.
Garden View Cottage is perfectly placed for exploring the Kingdom of Fife from the nearby Lomond hills, a filming location for “Outlander” and historic Falkland Palace to picturesque villages and iconic Scone and Glamis Castle gardens. Dundee’s historic harbour now developed for visitors and a delightful Botanic Garden plus a variety of eateries can be found across the River Tay estuary. The beaches and harbours of the East Neuk, along with the world famous golf heritage and sandy beaches of St Andrews, are a pleasant day trip.
