English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

With an abundance of wildlife to be found in the shared grounds, this property is perfect for nature lovers.

Originally built in 1825 as a ruin, this unique Grade II listed building has been sympathetically transformed into two lovely, detached gatehouses yet retaining all the visual appearances of a ruin. Built in stone from Filey Brigg, The Follies are set in 3/4 acres of natural grounds and visitors are welcome to wander through them, where there is an abundance of wildlife including, rabbits, owls and squirrels.
Centrally located for exploring the North Yorkshire coast, moors and wolds, the historic town of Filey is only 3 miles distant, with its wide sandy beach and all the attractions of a popular seaside resort. Scarborough and Bridlington are both easily accessible, as is the beautiful city of York. There is a 9-hole golf course locally, fishing available nearby, and an RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs providing interest for bird-watchers. There are plenty of local shops and pubs within walking distance, and good railway links. Shop 500 yards.

Cosy living room with rug on stone floor, Gothic arched windows and insets in walls, vaulted ceiling and original Gothic archway leading to grounds. Well-equipped fitted kitchen/dining room with stone floor. Bathroom with shower over whirlpool bath and toilet. First floor: Minstrel gallery double bedroom with sloping ceiling, double bed and ½ tester above.

Wonderful place to stay for a very relaxing week. A great base for touring round. The owner is very nice nothing is too much trouble. The follies is quirky and well kitted out we really enjoyed our week here and can’t recommend it highly enough.

Lovely cottage but needs an area where you can let dogs off the lead safely as it is locatedifficult on a busy road. Also advance warning of the low beams would have been better. Having said that it's a lovely cottage and ideal for a younger couple to use as a based due to its location. I will also tell you that Vicki the owneright is lovely and will make you feel very welcome.

Very individual and quirky cottage Very cold in the lounge stone floors and only 1 radiator blocked by large sofa Cold draft blowing through door -gaps around it We bought a fan heater from a local charity shop but it was still very cold in lounge Upstairs however in mezzanine bedroom it was very hot We could not sleep so left after 2 nights We couldnt leave velux window in bedroom open due to no catch and noise and january weather so we would not return
