What we love

Fabulous historic building which has been transformed into a vivid, life affirming destination in the market town of Selkirk, where there are good pubs and restaurants, as well as outdoor activities nearby.

Description

With lovely views over surrounding hills, this detached property provides stunning accommodation for friends or families to enjoy holidaying together.

Zinging with colour and exceptional style, this Grade B listed, Scottish Baronial-style townhouse, dating from the 1870’s, has been entirely transformed in to comfortable, spacious accommodation. Close to the centre of the small town of Selkirk, this detached property sits high with stunning views over the surrounding hills, and the iconic five turrets can be seen against the skyline. The spectacular triple height living area has inviting sofas arranged around the wood burner, with lots of room to gather round the dining table and enjoy a lovely meal. A personal chef can be arranged for special occasions, and the kitchen is fully equipped for every culinary requirement. The mezzanine library with huge TV and vibrant sofas positively encourages relaxation and conviviality, and the roomy hall, with its white piano. The eclectic selection of furniture is complimented by gorgeously styled handwoven fabrics, artworks and photography, all very evident in the bedrooms, one of which has a tiny turret with a reading chair just squeezed in.
At The Five Turrets you can enjoy a range of activities from local companies, why not take a Landrover Safari through the ancient Ettrick Valley Forest, a tour around the borders to see hen harriers, short eared owls and maybe a golden eagle, or a relaxing stroll with a herd of alpacas. For food and drink lovers, try your hand at a cake decorating master class and a gin tasting session, both held at The Five Turrets. For the sporting enthusiasts you can enjoy a discounted round of a golf at the nearby golf course, and some of the very best fly fishing with your own experienced angling partner.
Selkirk’s central location is perfect for outdoor activities. There are numerous short and long distance trails for walkers, internationally renowned fishing on the River Tweed and its tributaries, local golf courses, many are quiet, interesting and great value, and mountain bikers can head to the world-class 7 Stanes mountain biking courses, including the nearby Glentress Forest, 30 minutes’ drive away. The area is suitable for all levels of adrenalin junkies, or alternatively, head to Go Ape for a tree top adventure. The area is steeped in history with many houses and gardens to discover. Floors Castle and Sir Walter Scott’s home at Abbotsford are nearby, Edinburgh is an hour north by road or train and the Kielder Forest and Hadrian’s Wall lie to the south. Shop, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

Absolutely stunning! With a family wedding at nearby Aikwood Tower, The Five Turrets made equally grand family accommodation for a week of celebration. The huge open living space with beautiful views across the valley, yet with cosy mezzanine level TV area and lovely spacious lounge with great log-burner for colder days meant space for everyone. Kitchen is extremely well equipped and the whole house beautifully and tastefully decorated - loved the patchwork chairs! It is ideally placed in the heart of Selkirk within walking distance of excellent restaurant, and amenities. The turreted outside may just be decoration on the whole, but just makes it feel a really special place to be, in what was for us an extra special week. Thank you, Gethin and Carolynn, we loved it! (Oh - and the plums from the garden were also delicious!)

One of the best properties I've stayed in. Gethin and Carolynn were on hand when we arrived and couldn't be more welcoming. The attention to detail in the house is fantastic and the interiors are stylish and modern; no tartan carpets. The main living space has a relaxed feel to it, with gorgeous views over the hills. The bedrooms are cosy and our daughter loved the turret room. With so many places to visit on the doorstep (Bowhill house and grounds in particular was a favourite), Five Turrets is definitely worth a repeat visit.

We had a truly lovely stay at The Five Turrets in July. We used it as a base to see much of the local area bedore attending a wedding in Selkirk. We felt so at home there and loved the communal space. The facilities were exceptional and we would tell any friends heading up to the Borders to stay there. Thank you!
