A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Description

This Grade II Listed one-bedroom holiday cottage is set in a private walled garden measuring around a third of an acre, and is conveniently all on one level.

Set in its own walled garden which is completely private, Gamekeeper’s Cottage is ideal for those seeking a romantic getaway. Part of the Groves Estate built for Sir William Lynch in around 1750, Gamekeeper’s Cottage is surrounded by high Grade II listed walls which shelter a gloriously sunny garden, spanning around a third of an acre, which is bursting with unusual plants and flowers including a fig tree. Here you will find your very own secret garden, a perfect retreat into countryside tranquillity – well away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Inside, the detached cottage has been renovated with luxury bed linen, toiletries and fittings. The medieval local village of Staple has a friendly pub/restaurant and Wingham and Sandwich are a short drive away. Canterbury is less than 10 miles away and is bursting with shops and restaurants. There is a great choice of beaches nearby including Broadstairs, Sandwich Bay and Ramsgate.

Gamekeeper’s Cottage is perfect for couples who want to spend some quality time together; those in need of peace and escape can wander around their own ’Garden of Eden’, before exploring the beautiful countryside and nearby coast – the best Kent has to offer. Even France is accessible with the Eurotunnel, and the ports at Dover and Folkestone close by. There is a bus stop within walking distance with hourly buses running to Sandwich and Canterbury. Shop and restaurant 2½ miles, pub 1 mile.

Gamekeeper’s Cottage can be booked together with Willow Tree House (UKC1060) and The Bothy (UKC1061) to accommodate up to 12 guests.

As reported in my e-mail, the location was very difficult to find due to misinformation in direction instructions. The cottage is very small to most other cottages we booked via. you. Bedroom very small, cooking facilities very limited & storage for personal items limited. T, which is he best feature is the walled garden is secluded & very relaxing. A sign on the gate would help to identify correct cottage , among 3 others.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for taking the time to review Gamekeepers Cottage. The written directions are a little complicated; there is no misinformation. As stated in our initial phone call it is very easy to find if you use a sat nav/smart phone and get directions using the postcode. As clearly advertised and shown in the photos, the cottage is not large and this is reflected in the price. However it is finished to a very high quality with a brand new, luxury shower room, furniture, and wood burner. There are only three properties in total on the estate and they are clearly distinct. I don’t understand the reference to among 3 others; full details on where each cottage could be found are given over the phone at first contact. The photo on the advert shows an overview of where each cottage can be found. We do make a point of asking guests to call us ASAP if they have any problems. In terms of storage, as well as a two kitchen cupboards and three large drawers, there is a wide, large shelf above the entry corridor which can take three suitcases. There is a full length cupboard with a clothes rail. There are also two large plastic storage boxes on wheels which are kept under the bed and are easily accessible. We would encourage guests to read the particulars of the cottage and look closely at the photos to see exactly what we provide. Yes, the cottage is small, but I can’t imagine there are many one bedroom cottages which include a stunning 17th century walled garden measuring a third of an acre, which is completely private and not overlooked.

The gamekeepers cottage is quite small but cosy and ,everything you need is there. The shower room is lovely. Everything is good quality. The location is lovely too and ideal for getting around as many places are less than 10 miles away. I would stay again. The village has a friendly pub which serves good food.

Response on behalf of the owner- Thank you so much for your positive review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Overall very nice, lovely private garden with squirrels, and warm cosy cottage. Excellent location for visiting lovely Kent locations like Howletts, Canterbury, Dover castle etc. Free wifi. Slight niggles, there is no storage and it doesn't have an oven so the combination microwave was a challenge. Friendly owner and nice welcome package.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for the review and we are very pleased you enjoyed your stay. There is a cupboard where guests can hang up clothes as well as room for folded clothes. There are two storage boxes under the bed and an open loft space above the door where there is plenty of space to store things.

The area is absolutely perfect for a relaxing holiday, the cottage is close to several places that we wanted to visit, the garden is absolutely superb (spacious and ideal), but the cottage is far too small. There is no space for unpacking clothes, other than a couple of plastic boxes under the bed and even for two people the kitchen/diner/lounge is far too small, with no-where to store food other than the fridge.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner- We were devastated to get this review which is very different from others we have received. We do make it very clear in the description this is a small, one-bedroom cottage. There is a sort of loft storage above the door as you come in which easily takes suitcases. There is also a cupboard and drawers where food can be kept. It is small, no doubt, but we hope the luxury bed linen, the generous welcome pack the lovely brand new wood burning stove and the glorious garden makes up for it.

The accommodation was very good and the secluded garden very welcome. The only downside was cleanliness. The two ring hot plate looked dreadful with baked on food which I had to clean off as best I could with fairy liquid before I could start cooking. The shower curtain had mould on it. We used the outside table and chairs but again had to clean off green algae before use.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner. Thank you for your review and for taking the time to comment. We have taken on board your points about cleanliness. The oven and chairs have been thoroughly cleaned and the shower curtain replaced. We are available by telephone if there are any questions or issues which may arise during a guests' stay and a contact number is provided in the property. We are sorry that you did not voice your concerns at the time of your stay as this would have allowed us the opportunity to address the issues you have raised immediately. We thank you though for bringing this to our attention.

Great place for the summer. Had a fantastic time, would definitely go back, But we would not not go back in the winter, the cooking facilities don't suit it. But. Great bolt hole .

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner. Thank you for the great review. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay. We take on board your comments about the cooking facilities; there is a two ring hob and a combination microwave/oven which does work as a grill as well. It takes a bit of ingenuity but it is possible to cook everything up to a roast dinner.
