The Cart Lodge definitely was the worst dwelling I ever had in thirty years of travelling through England, Scotland and Ireland. The view through the prised French windows shows rusty debris and a nearly rotten barn with corrugated sheet iron. The couch won´t give you free again without help if you are over 50. Everthing looks run down. The mattresses are everything from comfortable. Dining/living room is an exggeration as there is hardly enough space for two, which is true for the tiny table as well. There should have been a warning, that this cottage is not suited for disabled persons. The larger bedroom could only be reached over two steps without handrails, the second one showed not more than 40cm between beds and wall, so it was very difficult to turn with crutches. The whole property was by no means clean, especially one bathrom. The shower entrance was very high. Confronted with this, the landlady just shrugged her shoulders and wasn`t seen again until our earlier departure. She had recognized from the start that we were disappointed and preferred to stay away. A rating of 9,5 from 10 for the 2018 season appears like a joke.

A real treasure of a cottage. Perfect in every way. Owners very welcoming. Even though it is secluded and peaceful, there are loads of things to do in the area. A good pub to eat at, (The Lamb), not far away. About a mile away is a small village shop with a very limited stock, the larger supermarkets are further afield, so best to buy your food en route. The sheep outside in the field are a bonus and over the few days we stayed here, we got to know their individual characters! We highly recommend Cart Lodge - it's lovely!

We picked the Cart Lodge for its location so were happy being away from shops etc. Our hosts were excellent, nothing was too much trouble, even came half way through our stay with fresh scones and sausage rolls- delicious. We will definitely return

We always look at dozens of available cottages before we make any booking. This one ticked all the boxes on the website and totally lived up to promise in reality. All of the photos online are realistic and informative. There are no superfluous, unhelpful pictures of bowls of fruit, flowers on a windowsill or weird wall decorations.

We enjoyed a very peaceful and quiet week at The Cart Lodge, which although quite small, we found very comfortable and well equipt. It is located on a working farm in delightful countryside. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and the thoughtful welcome pack much appreciated. The friendliest sheep we have ever met were in a field right next to the lodge, which provided unexpected entertainment. There is no lack of choice for places to visit within a reasonable distance. We found the nearby 'Red Lion' in the village of Hooe to be everything you could wish a village pub to be: friendly and welcoming landlord and staff, a pleasant atmosphere with a mix of locals and holidaymakers and an impressive menu of good food .
