English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

This very unusual holiday property was formerly a WWII operations bunker, and now it provides wonderful holiday accommodation.

The Bunker is a beautifully converted World War II operations bunker, which now provides unique, comfortable holiday accommodation. It is set in glorious countryside and just a short distance from the famous open air Minack Theatre, Porthcurno Beach, the wide white sandy beach of Sennen and the Legendary Lands End. It’s a great spot for exploring the delights of West Cornwall, including the picturesque valley at Lamorna Cove, the quaint harbour and village of Mousehole, plus the fishing harbour at Newlyn.

The bustling town of Penzance and the historic town of Marazion, home of St Michaels Mount which rises from the sea like a fairytale castle, can be reached on foot by causeway at low tide and small ferry at high tide. The area is a popular walking destination with extensive scenic coastal pathways. The marshes at Marazion and Hayle Estuary attract wildlife and bird watchers from around the world. Locally, you can find cycle trails, sub-tropical gardens, tea rooms and art galleries, including the Tate and Barbara Hepworth Museum at St Ives.

Take the scenic coastal train from St Erth to St Ives or take a day trip to the beautiful Isles of Scilly from nearby Lands End airport or the Scillonian Ferry from Penzance. Return to The Bunker and relax on the patio with an aperitif before heading off to take in an evening performance at the Minack Theatre. This peaceful, comfortable and a truly unusual accommodation will delight young and old. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

One small step to entrance. Open-plan living/dining room with French doors and kitchen area. Utility. Two double bedrooms; one with 5ft bed and en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet, one with en-suite shower room and toilet. Two single bedrooms. Shower room with toilet.

A beautifully presented property with lovely outdoor space. It is private and away from the bustle whilst accessible for Penzance, Sennen Cove, the coastal path and Minack theatre. It was lovely to watch the sunset from the roof. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

A delightful place to stay. Certainly the best holiday ‘cottage’ we’ve ever stayed in.

We loved our stay at The Bunker. It is a stunning place which has been decorated to a very high standard. I do not think that I have ever stayed in a cottage that is so well kitted out. All the special little touches (towels and bowls for the dog, wine and delicious bread etc on arrival) just made it. Perfect location for trips out. My family and I can't wait to come back again and we have recommended it to all our friends and everyone who wants to hear. Superb place!!!!!

The bunker has been beautifully designed and set up. It has absolutely everything you could need from a holiday let and the quality of everything is excellent including the bed linen and towels. It’s a truly unique place to stay and it’s lovely to learn some of its history when you’re there. There is no issue at all about natural light because of the clever design but it can be very noisy when windy on the light tubes- although we thought this added to the atmosphere! There was a problem with the electricity supply on our arrival. The owners were quick to respond and to try and sort this for us but it meant that we had limited lighting and none at all in the bathrooms for 24 hours which made things difficult. No refund offer was forthcoming which surprised us. Location wise it’s beautiful wild Cornwall. Sennen Cove is a few minutes drive and there’s a great pub there for food too. To get to pubs and the small local shop you have to drive although you can walk a dog on the lanes/public footpath from the front door. It was a lovely chilled few days in a beautiful environment.
