Set within the magnificent Swinton Estate near Masham, High Swinton is a quintessential chocolate-box cottage offering a wonderfully luxurious base for exploring one of North Yorkshire’s most beautiful corners. Sleeping up to eight guests, it’s an inviting choice for families and groups of friends looking for countryside, comfort and a little indulgence.
Inside, traditional character meets relaxed country style. There are two double bedrooms and a flexible twin/double bedroom, while a sofa bed in the cosy living room provides additional sleeping space. Gather around the log fire after a day in the Dales, or enjoy leisurely meals prepared in the traditional farmhouse kitchen. French doors lead out to a generous patio and garden, perfect for summer dining. A ground-floor shower room and first-floor bathroom with separate shower add extra convenience.
The cottage sits on the doorstep of Swinton Country Club and within the spectacular 20,000-acre Swinton Estate, where rolling farmland, ancient woodland and open moorland create an unforgettable Yorkshire setting. Walkers are particularly well catered for, with direct access to an excellent off-road walking trail complete with dog-friendly stiles. The wider Estate offers more than 60 miles of public footpaths, with routes ranging from gentle riverside and woodland strolls to exhilarating hikes across the moors.
Head towards Swinton Bivouac to discover the atmospheric Druid’s Temple hidden among the trees, or follow one of the Estate’s routes towards nearby Masham. This handsome market town, centred around its historic market square, is known for independent shops, galleries, welcoming pubs and cafés – as well as its famous Theakston and Black Sheep breweries.
There’s plenty more to discover further afield. Wander through beautiful Hackfall Woods, explore the romantic ruins of Jervaulx Abbey or spend a day discovering the landscapes and villages of the Yorkshire Dales. Aysgarth Falls and historic Middleham make rewarding excursions, while families can enjoy attractions including The Forbidden Corner, Thorp Perrow Arboretum and the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park.
Back on the Estate, days can be as active or relaxing as you choose, with opportunities for cycling, fishing, archery, wild swimming and cookery experiences. Alternatively, simply pull on your walking boots, set off from the cottage door and enjoy the glorious Yorkshire countryside.
Two hours’ access to the Country Club & Spa facilities is included daily, between 6.30am and 12pm and again between 6pm and 9pm. Children can access the main indoor pool between 9.30am and 10.30am daily with adult supervision. Pre-booking prior to arrival is required; however, access to the gym is available between check-in and check-out.
