This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Meadowsweet is in an ideal location for exploring the Norfolk Broads and the pretty coastal villages on the north Norfolk coast.

Created to provide a relaxing and stylish environment, and each with their own hot tub and sauna (leisure towels are also provided), this is a perfect holiday location for family celebrations or a get together, whatever the season. The southern aspects of both cottages look over a valley with no habitation in sight, and the night sky is incredible when clear. There are excellent walks and circular routes from the doorstep, free from cars, for both walkers and cyclists. Cowslip Cottage (ref UKC2457) and Meadowsweet Cottage (ref UKC2458) are semi-detached properties and are hidden away, yet situated in the pretty village of Swardeston, a short 5-mile drive from the excellent city of Norwich. Swardeston is the birth place of Edith Cavell, probably the most famous woman to be killed during World War I and remembered around the world for all her tireless and selfless work she undertook whilst working as a nurse, before being executed on 12 October 1915. Edith’s portrait hangs in her memory on the east stained glass window of St Mary’s church and is worthy of a visit. Enjoy fresh bread, pastries and cakes from the village bakery, or visit the local pub, under 1 mile away, which serves good food. There is also a farm shop for fresh veg and fruit as well as a newsagents and butchers. Swardeston Common is very popular with walkers, also from here you can watch the local cricket matches played in front of the pavilion.
Visit the fabulous north Norfolk coastline with its pretty coastal villages and glorious beaches, and explore the famous Norfolk Broads. Wroxham, 16 miles away is known as the capital of the Norfolk Broads, where you will find daily boat hire, river trips, waterside restaurants, cafés and shops. Enjoy a great day out with the children at BeWILDerwood at Horning, a treetop adventure park, Dinosaur Park at Lenwade and Pensthorpe Nature Park. Explore the Suffolk Heritage Coast and the popular seaside towns of Aldebugh and Southwold. The historical city of Norwich is 5 miles, with its cathedrals, museums, theatre, excellent shopping and cosmopolitan cafés. The seaside village of Winterton-on-Sea has an excellent sandy beach backed by dunes and plenty of shops and restaurants. Thetford Forest is ideal for tree top adventures at Go Ape, designated circular walks and cycle trails graded for different abilities. There are golf courses at Dunston Hall 2¼ miles and Barnham Broom 14 miles and a family golf course at Easton 9½ miles. Beach 25 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Low WiFi signal unfortunately but lovely spot. Our dog really enjoyed the walks. Very comfortable beds but sofas not good for lounging.

Location of cottage is fantastic - lovely private area with hot tub and sauna outside. Close to Norwich for days out also. I would say however that there was not enough kitchen equipment given the cottage is meant to sleep 8- only a few wine glasses and a couple of bowls. Also oven was quite dirty on arrival. We didn’t have any TV signal for a few days, but owner did get an engineer out promptly to fix this issue. Overall was a fantastic stay and we would return - Just may pack our own wine glasses next time as we had to go out and buy some!

Great hosts, cottage was in immaculate condition. Can’t complain about the housing equipment had all the basic essentials. Also, everything was intact, hot water was working fine, heating was never an issue, bathroom towels, extra blankets, jacuzzi/sauna all working fine. Only negative would be the location. The postcode provided leads you to another property and let’s just say the people ain’t the friendliest. Apart from that, shops were easy to access, locals are very friendly. Overall, would highly recommend easpecially during the summer.

We had a lovely, relaxing holiday at Meadowsweet. The location is perfect, a few miles drive from Norwich and main roads to take you to Broads and beautiful beaches. Lovely walks for the dogs straight from the door. Quiet village, fascinating local history about Edith Cavell and pretty church. Our kids enjoyed borrowing the bikes, although they need a bit of maintenance. Cottage was perfect ; we could have just done with a few extra bits of equipment in the kitchen ie bread knife, extra glasses but nothing to mar a great family holiday. Greatly appreciated the thoughtful welcome basket of goodies, and the cottage manual was most useful - it was also considerate to have it emailed to us before we arrived so we could do a bit of pre-planning.

Great location, felt so rural, with Norwich city just 15 mins away! The cottage comfortably housed 8 of us and was perfect for our birthday celebrations. We all commented on the lovely comfortable beds! However, there were some negatives that could so easily be rectified and make this cottage into such a beautiful and perfect place to stay. For us the house wasn’t well equipped enough for 8 (ie only 4 bowls, 4 small glasses, 2 tea towels etc). We had to buy a bread knife as there wasn’t one. The bbq was a great addition but was filthy and no tools to clean it and our biggest negative was the most uncomfortable corner sofa in the lounge... The hot tub and sauna was a brilliant addition and would have been perfect had the tub have been warm. We contacted the owners who ordered a new element and quickly fitted it but it was a shame it wasn’t working. If you have the choice, choose the cottage next door as the hot tub is to the side of the house rather than the front... just felt a bit more secluded.

Was a really great place to stay and would love to stay there again. For constructive criticism however we felt it was poorly equipped when it came to utensils, pans and cooking equipment. There’s a bbq but no bbq tools and one small frying pan and 2 saucepans. When staying in a house for 8 people it doesn’t really suffice. There was also only a small handheld dyson (which didn’t really have any suction) and no dustpan and brush etc so was difficult to keep clean. As I said we would definitely go back if there again if these niggles were ironed out. Its a lovely house we really enjoyed the hot tub, if anything it was too hot re the other comments about it being too cold.
