Swardeston is the birth place of Edith Cavell, probably the most famous woman to be killed during World War I and remembered around the world for all her tireless and selfless work she undertook whilst working as a nurse, before being executed on 12 October 1915. Edith’s portrait hangs in her memory on the east stained glass window of St Mary’s church and is worthy of a visit. Enjoy fresh bread, pastries and cakes from the village bakery, or visit the local pub, under 1 mile away, which serves good food. There is also a farm shop for fresh veg and fruit as well as a newsagents and butchers. Swardeston Common is very popular with walkers, also from here you can watch the local cricket matches played in front of the pavilion.
Visit the fabulous north Norfolk coastline with its pretty coastal villages and glorious beaches, and explore the famous Norfolk Broads. Wroxham, 16 miles away is known as the capital of the Norfolk Broads, where you will find daily boat hire, river trips, waterside restaurants, cafés and shops. Enjoy a great day out with the children at BeWILDerwood at Horning, a treetop adventure park, Dinosaur Park at Lenwade and Pensthorpe Nature Park. Explore the Suffolk Heritage Coast and the popular seaside towns of Aldebugh and Southwold. The historical city of Norwich is 5 miles, with its cathedrals, museums, theatre, excellent shopping and cosmopolitan cafés. The seaside village of Winterton-on-Sea has an excellent sandy beach backed by dunes and plenty of shops and restaurants. Thetford Forest is ideal for tree top adventures at Go Ape, designated circular walks and cycle trails graded for different abilities. There are golf courses at Dunston Hall 2¼ miles and Barnham Broom 14 miles and a family golf course at Easton 9½ miles. Beach 25 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
These properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 16 guests.

Whilst the cottage could be very nice, we encountered a number of issues; individually these may be minor, but collectively they did affect the overall holiday experience: - the hot tub did not work, it was lukewarm on the first day and got colder. - there was no guidance or instructions in the use of the hot tub or sauna and we had to work it out ourselves. - there were no outside lights covering the hot tub and sauna making access dangerous without a torch. - whilst there was a dishwasher, the plates were not dishwasher safe. - a bread knife would have been useful as would a greater selection of glasses. - the blind cords were long and not secured and pose a risk to small children (we had a 1 year old with us). - the Dyson was blocked and could not be cleared so was unusable. - we asked for the bed in the third bedroom to be made up as a super king in line with the property details but this consisted of two single beds being pushed together and there was no access to different bed linen or duvet. Our experience of other cottages of this type has been of a higher standard. Whilst we were able to make do for the few days we were there, it would have been more challenging over a longer period. Overall the cottage was disappointing but with a few small changes it could have been significantly improved.

This was a great cottage in a quiet and peaceful location. Yes, the sofa's in the living room weren't the most comfortable and there could have been a few more pots for cooking. But that didn't take away from what was an excellent long weekend. The beds were comfortable, the house was clean, hot tub and sauna were fab and there was plenty of space for 7 of us.

Although the cottage has many plus points such as comfortable beds, high end bedding/towels and good showers in the bathrooms, downstairs it is a different scenario. As has been previously mentioned the seating is mostly uncomfortable and this is the reason that I would only recommend with that caveat as I appreciate that this is a subjective opinion. My party did all agree and we also thought that the kitchen cooking utensils could be improved as there was only one small fry pan for 8 guests. It was great to have a sauna and hot tub but in Cowslip cottage there is no adequate outside lighting for the hot tub area. I have addressed this issue directly with the owner .

As a family of 8 adults, 1 toddler and 2 dogs the cottage upstairs was pleasant, clean and comfortable however, downstairs was not. The chairs were lumpy and uncomfortable, there was inadequate room for the number of people the cottage catered for, there was inadequate cooking utensils for size of party (we planned to eat in all weekend) the fan in oven did not work (however main oven worked without it), oven was also dirty from previous occupants. There was no instructions for microwave/Combi oven. Garden was not secure for dogs who could escape to horse field opposite. If weather wet/muddy no where to put coats/boots/shoes or dirty dogs.

Our family group really enjoyed our holiday at Cowslip Cottage. We loved the location of the house, which was quiet and perfect for walking the dog. The house was comfortable for 8 adults and a baby, although we felt the furniture was inadequate for this size of group, with not enough comfy seating for us all to sit together. The kitchen and dining facilities were fine, as was the laundry. However we would have preferred a bigger freezer. Our only disappointment was that the garden was not secure so we had to keep our dog on a lead as otherwise she escaped. The garden furniture was adequate and we enjoyed using the built in bbq. Sadly we were plagued by wasps, which created us a bit of a problem but the owners did try to deal with them.
