Built in 1899 and converted into a stylish home, this detached property offers a great space for a family holiday and features a 25ft stained glass window in the living room. There is much to see and do in the surrounding areas; Afan Argoed Forestry Park is excellent for mountain biking and has been rated in the top ten of the world for mountain bike rides. The stunning Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains offer breathtaking scenery and fabulous walking, and there are several waterfalls within a 15-minute walk. Margam Country Park is well worth a visit, with its castle, 18th-century orangery, narrow gauge railway, deer, Fairytale Land and Go Ape tree top adventure. Visit Dan yr Ogof Showcaves which also offer wedding ceremonies. Quad biking, archery and paintballing can all be found in the surrounding areas, along with fishing, golf and horse riding. Slightly further afield is the stunning Gower Peninsula, Britain’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with beautiful expanses of sandy beaches, hidden coves and coastal walks. Brecon, Swansea and Cardiff, the bustling capital city, are within approximately a 45-minute drive. Shop 50 yards, pub 250 yards, restaurant 1 mile.

    It was just what we wanted. Plenty of communal room to enjoy with every facility to relax or be together in the kitchen/dining area. Lovely place to stay keeping the tradition of the church and a great new modern environment.

    We chose St Albans Church as a location to celebrate milestone birthdays with the family. It had everything we look for - several bathrooms, alternative seating areas so we can spread out a bit, something to entertain the kids and a location that's not too remote as we do like to have easy access to a shop. Arranging access was easy with a key safe code provided and the directions were clear. On arrival the property was warm and welcoming bottles of milk and wine were left for us. There was not quite as much credit on the gas meter as we expected, but a quick phone call to Jason remedied this and a few other things that needed attention the next day. Unfortunately it took a couple of days to fix the spa bath that we had all been looking forward to trying, but it was worth the wait when we finally got to enjoy the bubbles after a long walk on the only dry day. Access to Netflix and an XBox was probably the highlight of the teens' week, although we all enjoyed playing pool and doing some of the provided jigsaws as well. We didn't get out and about much as the weather was not great, but that's to be expected in Wales during March and we had a very relaxing time. It was worth the walk to the waterfalls and the museum in Swansea was interesting. A great property for a relaxing week away with no pressure to be out and about everyday was just what we wanted and what we got!

    Lovely week spent here with family. lovely spacious rooms and well equipt kitchen maybe some more large mugs and a cafetière would be nice but just a minor comment. We had our grandchildren with us and they gave the place 10/10 .the large kitchen with dinning area and play area was a great hit with all the family as we could all be together while cooking . The spa bath in the master bedroom was very relaxing

    We stayed at St Albans church for New Year 2018/9 and had a very mixed experience. The property certainly has the potential for 5 stars, as the refurbishment was to a high specification, however this was several years ago and the property is in need of some maintenance/TLC. Issues reported and fixed by the owner: 1) oven was replaced as previous occupants had broken the door. 2) money is supposed to be on the meter on arrival, when we arrived it wasn’t - the owner transferred the money to my Account immediately but we did have to go straight to the spar to top up the card ourselves. Issues reported and not fixed: 1) Space Invaders game didn’t work. At all. 2) Outside rear light wasn’t working - an issue whilst letting dogs out after 4pm 3) Yale lock on front door was broken Issues we didn’t report as didn’t want to spend the week complaining and wanted to make the most of what we had: 1) Bin bags from previous occupants on the path to the property the entire week. 2) 3 showers in the property but due to low water pressure only one could be used at a time 3) Pool table - 2 pockets held on by string 4) a dining chair collapsed when sat on by a 5 year old child 5) blocked drain in the downstairs wet room 6) kitchen overhead cupboards would not stay open, had to keep open with assistance or own head whilst emptying dishwasher 7) dishwasher was not integrated to units, whilst opening drawers the whole unit tipped out towards you 8) kitchen could be better equipped with sharp knives, better pans etc Our stay was comfortable and enjoyable but could have been so much better considering the price we paid

    The Church definitely has the wow factor. We stayed there for a long weekend with family and friends for my 60th birthday at the beginning of December. It was spacious, well equipped and comfortable. There were some nice touches - a complimentary bottle of wine and carton of milk and it was decorated for Christmas with a huge tree in the living room. The pool table was a great asset as the weather wasn't great. All in all a very memorable and lovely weekend.

    Very cold, despite maxing the heating. Simple things missing that would have made a big difference, such as something to make coffee in, enough pots and pans for the number of people the place caters for, having to top up the gas card yourself. Place wasn't overly clean, roof leaked and was covered in stains, generally was a bit shabby

    Response on behalf of the owner; When our cleaners arrived at 10am, they could not gain entry to the property. The cleaners eventually got in at 12pm, which was 2 hours late, which inevitably delayed the clean ready for the next arrival at 3pm. Whilst at the property, I mentioned it was very cold and asked had the gas run out? To which the guest replied it had and they had not topped up the card. It is quite clear in the description that we leave gas on the meter then when it runs out, guests pay the top up. On average, it costs £8 per day to heat the property and we leave over £20 on the meter, which covers all weekend stays and 50% of a week stay. There is underfloor heating on both floors which has a thermal block of 8 inches which needs to be constantly heated as when it gets cold it take 24 hours to get back to optimal temperature. This jeopardised the next guests comfort by letting the gas run out. We doubled up on pots and pans for the induction hob and oven over a year ago and have not had any complaints. There is a coffee filter in one of the many cupboards. Your review has given a score of one for comfort and equipment, which is very surprising as there are 5 new beds, a new sofa suite, 3D 60 inch TV with surround sound, underfloor heating on both floors, new barbecue, 25 inch TV in the play room, David Beckham’s old Pool table, Space invader machine, induction hob, double fridge freezer and a separate fridge and freezer in the utility room, luxury spa bath, two en-suite bedrooms not to mention the authentic stain glass 25 foot window that was renovated at a huge cost.

    The church was incredible! It had everything we needed, the underfloor heating worked great and, although I worried about it being cold in November, we were absolutely fine! Poole table was a wonderful added extra! Also, milk and wine on arrival was a lovely touch. The surrounding area was fine, shop within walking distance. The waterfalls and hiking trail nearby were fantastic! We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be booking to come back!

    The pictures do this property justice. In 12 years of staying at holiday homes, often twice in a year we have never seen anything like this one. This is the experience we paid for. Met at the gate on arrival with a mountain of rubbish, the 3 bins were full with rubbish piled on top and around them, it was there for 3 days until my husband put the surplus out on the Monday morning, but moving other people’s rubbish was not what we paid for. St Albans looked like an abandoned, neglected house in a field as the grounds were so unkempt, the grass was nearly a foot high with tuffs of grass and weeds growing on path and steps. The shower in the master bedroom was so filthy with weeks if not months of build up of dirt that had you needed to use it you’d have kept your shoes on. There was a ridiculous amount of large cobwebs hanging off the exposed beams and huge window all in the living room. The house was warm enough in the morning and afternoon but in the evening it was really cold. No doubt the house in insulated to death but that huge window with 3mm thick single glass pulled the warm air outside as evening fell. That said, had the heating been our only concern then we would have overlooked it as the rest of the house was okay, but pile of rubbish inside the front gate, the lack of ground maintenance and poor standard of cleanliness is preventable therefore unacceptable to a paying guest.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; We have had 6 years’ worth of guests with a very high occupancy and many guests return year after year. We explained that the previous guests forgot to leave the rubbish out and our maintenance team would collect it Sunday night. We now employ the services of a private collection agency as the local council have changed collection from every week to fortnightly. We agree the grounds do not look great in autumn where leaves block paths and steps. This particular polyprimer for one of the largest showers we have ever installed has a tendency to look dark in patches. Our two cleaners bleach and sub this every changeover and it is not dirt. Maybe you missed the property is a converted church and is over 125 years old with 40 foot arches which inevitably attract cobwebs. We will look into it although all the original feature beams that can be reached with the extension duster are spotless. NU HEAT designed the underfloor systems on both floors from scratch, market leaders in underfloor heating. The 3mm single glass you mention is the original stained glass, which cost over £3,000 to be renovated. Every guest mentions how amazing it is and the guests after your stay left us a thank you card. We are very disappointed to have received such a low score but we are pleased to see the reviews prior and since your stay are much higher and so give a more balanced view of the property.

    St Albans Church is very spacious and comfortable and we enjoyed the games room. The downside is the parking as the layby at the front was usually full and we had to park away from the property.

    The Chapel was a super spacious place. Well eqipt and clean in a quiet location. As it's an on going project and has lots of potential may possibly revisit.
