Cutlery and utensils cheap or have certainly seen better days, placemats and saucepans the same. Hanging tools filthy. For a weeks stay they only supplied one roll of toilet paper in each bathroom. Disappointingly only one bath towel per person too. Although the cottage had a washing machine it didn’t have a dryer so washing and drying the towels in readiness for the next shower was difficult. TV very small and not adequate for a living room. For those wishing to self cater it would benefit from a bigger fridge, perhaps a kitchen rearrangement to give a free standing fridge freezer with extra cupboard space for provisions. For the reasons above I think this cottage was vastly over priced. So many cottage owners make their guests welcome and go above and beyond, these owners should consider upping their game.

We were changed to the smaller Packhouse, the bathrooms were not very nice the kitchen was smaller and there was never enough hot water for four people to fave showers

Response on behalf of the owner; We must firstly say how disappointed we are that these guests did not enjoy their holiday at The Old Packhouse. The guests chose to change to our other cottage, The Old Packhouse (PDDW) as it had the extra privacy the guests required. Our first and only consideration is the comfort of our guests and we have always done our utmost to ensure that holidays at Spithandle Nursery Barns are those to remember. We can only apologise that The Old Packhouse did not meet this guest's expectations.

The only reason we have given 9 for equiptment was because of the distance to get to the freezer and 9 for location as not much of a view, otherwise we enjoyed the Carthouse very much, warm and clean and owners very helpful also very peaceful lovely to sit and watch birds from the large windows. was a very good area immediately outside for our small dogs no worries about them getting out, they loved it also some woods very short distance away you could walk them also a lovely country road so dogs well catered for.

Not at all what we expected from a 4 star rated cottage . The cottage was grubby !In fact we had to clean the dust from the bathroom radiators/towel rails before we were able to use them. The washing machine dispenser drawer was in a disgusting state in that it was black with mildew and on removing it to wash it the mildew was even worse underneath . The furniture overall was old and shoddy especially in the bedrooms where the wardrobes were so shallow that a normal size coat hanger does not fit in, making it impossible to hang up our clothes !! The equipment in the kitchen left much to be desired and much of it was faulty e.g. even the scissors had a broken handle. The fridge was faulty in that no matter how low we turned it, the food was on the point of freezing. It should be made clear that although there IS shared use of a freezer it is,in fact, in the owners garage which is a good 300 yards down a slope to access. Not helpful for people such as us who all have walking /breathing difficulties! Onto the TV - be aware that this is only a very small 24 inch screen. Certainly not big enough for the size of the room . The roll top bath is very nice but for people with mobility issues is difficult to get in or out of. Some grab rails would make a very useful addition. On a positive note the sofa and chairs in the lounge area was very nice and comfortable to sit on. All in all this cottage needs a complete refurbishment because it could be lovely. All in all we would rate this at no more than 3 star rating.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. We returned after a month away to find both our properties in excellent condition. I feel unable to comment on the dust and washing machine, as both were spotless on our return (as were the Packhouse) We have furnished the barn with pieces that we feel have complimented it’s build, but I guess you can’t please everyone. The wardrobes do take a full size coat hanger. I feel happy with the kitchen equipment. I hope not having scissors didn’t spoil your holiday. The fridge is working. It seems that the freezer door was left open, causing everything to ice up. The deep freeze is situated 100m from the cottage. It has a very good track (the driveway to our house, which can be walked or driven). The television is fairly small, but again it’s hard to please everyone, and some may feel a larger set an intrusion. The roll top bath is clearly stated and shown in the property details. Again putting in rails may not suit all, and the singles bathroom does have a conventional bath with shower. We have taken on board all your comments, which will help us to make changes if we feel they’re needed.

Lovely week in the cottage and blessed with great weather. Visited with elderly parents who maybe would have benefitted from a hand hold to get in the shower over the bath. Also the outdoor decking area could do with a freshen up but other than that the cottage was perfect. You definitely need a car but it was perfect for us as was very close to good walking areas for our dog.
