Description

Stunning views of open countryside and the sea from the lounge.

Smuggler’s View is a delightful, modern cottage positioned in an enviable area, on the North Yorkshire National Park area of Ravenscar, near Scarborough. The cottage is a conversion from part of the main guest house that dates back to 1840 when it was a Coaching Inn, and had links with smuggling which was a flourishing trade on this part of the coast. Smuggler’s View has been tastefully furnished and decorated to a high standard and provides a perfect base for families and couples to explore this beautiful Heritage Coast. The cottage has the lounge area upstairs to make the most of the stunning panoramic views across open countryside and the sea. The area is a haven for walkers, cyclists and dog walkers with many pathways direct from your front door.

The following review is based on our previous experiences in similar stays on the North Coast in dog friendly cottages and to be honest, overall the property was fine. It is located in a nice remote area where the coastal paths were easily accessed, the views of the coast were lovely. The cottage was suitable for the wife and I (+ 2 dogs) but we were pleased two other visitors were unable to make it...it was small and due to size restrictions the beds were quite tiny and a little uncomfortable. The cottage had a 10 rating and we were expecting the cottage to be modern and spotless, unfortunately we didn’t agree with the rating and found it a little dated and not as clean as expected. It has obviously been furnished in a dog friendly style but we found it lacked more essential ‘human comforts’. For the same money we have stayed at quite a few more luxurious properties with more home comforts and equipment.

Lovely cosy cottage with outstanding views. Everything catered for, within a few miles from Whitby and Scarborough and robin hoods bay which is a gem.

We stayed at Smugglers View with our border collie who barks at cars, so it was fantastic that we could walk straight out of the front door onto a track / path between open pasture & moorland, where I enjoyed seeing all manner of birds such as lapwings and even a curlew. Ravenscar has interesting history walks and a disused railway track provides an easy (car free) walk along the coast. The cottage was comfortable, and the living room very spacious with fanastic views to the coast. The property information pack provided details about many local pubs, and we ate in two excellent dog-friendly pubs in the next village. The owner, who lives next door, was very friendly and helpful, and came immediately to fix a problem we had with one of the doors. The garden was very secure for our dog so we enjoyed sitting out there.
