Seagulls enjoys far-reaching, spectacular views across the Blakeney salt-marshes from full-length windows in the first floor living room. It is set at the end of a quiet no-through road with a sheltered, secluded garden. Over the road is the village playing field with tennis courts. Inside, the house is warm, convenient and attractive - practical for families with children, yet well-furnished to be relaxing and comfortable for the older generation. The well-equipped retro kitchen leads to the dining room which boasts a cosy wood burner.
Blakeney Quay is a short walk past the village shop (with bacon for the ever-obliging crabs). From here is access to the marsh or up to the village. Blakeney is a bird-watcher’s paradise; the coastal path runs in front of the house, there are seals at Blakeney Point, and it is surrounded by beautiful countryside walks. The historic little town of Holt is close by and offers a range of shops, pubs, restaurants, cafés and weekly markets. Within a few minutes’ drive is Holt Lowes, an area renowned for wildlife, designated as both a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation. Also worth a visit is Holt Country Park with its wealth of bird life, as well as other RSPB reserves. The region has several stately homes such as NT Blickling and Felbrigg Halls, Holkham Hall and Houghton Hall. Other interesting days out include visits to Sheringham Park, and Walsingham Shrine and Priory ruins. Sheringham offers golf and is home to the North Norfolk Steam Railway, Splash aqua pool, a promenade and a pier. Within easy driving distance is Norwich with its excellent shopping, restaurants, cathedral, theatre, pubs, cinema and markets. Wells-next-the-Sea is 5 miles and Holkham’s vast sandy beach is just 8 miles. Windsurfing, dinghy launching, sailing and boat trips are all available locally. Shops 100 yards.

We contacted the housekeeper and left a message on her answerphone before we got to the holiday let to ask if we could check in early, she never replied to us and we never spoke to her throughout our stay. The owner did contact us on the first evening, very polite lady but did stress to us that if we wanted to let our dog go to the toilet to take her to the field at the front of the house....there was no field at the front of the house, just a field a 5 minute walk away, a playing field. The property had a huge garden. Obviously our dog is going to do something in it! We found the oven not clean, three trays in the oven with burnt bits in them. The log fire was not cleaned. We found what looked like bird muck on one of the pillows, after taking the cover off. another pillow was very dirty. Tissues under the bed. Mould on grouting in the bathroom. A large black mould mark in the bathroom under the grab rail. The gardener just turned up and walked all around the house, trying to get our attention through the dining room window, we weren't even dressed! and if our dog had been out she would not have been happy. We usually expect some type of welcome pack but nothing. The Henry hoover was useless as the end was held together with sellotape and kept falling off and the dishwasher hinges were filthy. We were very disappointed and on complaining to the holiday agent they just said to us you should have read the terms and conditions. You can only complain while you are staying in the house. We complained the day after we left.

Response on behalf of the owner; I love Seagulls, so do my family and the clients who come year after year. It has a beautiful large garden where children can play safely, and upstairs the relaxing view to Blakeney Point. We do not provide ‘accommodation’ but a warm and comfortable holiday home for a family of all ages. As others have pointed out Seagulls is well equipped. This is to make life is as easy as possible for the range of people we host. But to be comfortable, a house must be clean. And Seagulls is clean. I salute my cleaners, they do a difficult job in a short time between guests. Ian mows the lawn for me every week, he was only letting you know why he was there. I am sorry you did not find the field I mentioned, it is run by the National Trust and full of wild flowers. It is amazing how considerate people are with their dogs, and I thank them. Our linen is professionally washed and fresh, we use protectors on mattresses and pillows. Thank you for telling me about the hinge on the washing up machine, I have wiped it clean. This machine is excellent and we run a special cleaning cycle to keep it working properly. I wrote to you, then phoned you when you had arrived, you had my phone number and so don't understand why I wasn't contacted at the time.

Lovely house in a superb location. Well equipped, right down to the children's toys both indoors and in the garden. Safely enclosed large garden, and just a few minutes walk to a children's playground. Five minutes to the harbour and shops, even closer to the coastal path. Ideal place for a family holiday.

Seagulls is in a perfect location for taking dogs for a walk. It is very handy for the Kings Arms and the shop. We would recommend The Moorings for Sunday lunch - delicious! The house is kept very clean and tidy and is equipped with everything you need for a holiday. The beds are comfortable and cosy; the kitchen/dining room is large; and minor items such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, etc. are all supplied - a small detail which we appreciated. Upstairs, the very large sitting room gives magnificent views over the dunes and coastal walk, and the enclosed garden is good for allowing pets to get some fresh air! The decor is a bit dated but it is not scruffy - more retro. We would have appreciated a TV in the Dining Area, as people tend to stay there, especially if they have pets. Also, although it is requested that pets should be washed down at the Quay (up to 400m away) before bringing them home, this can be impractical, and a hose (which can be connected to the outside tap) and trough would be better for cleaning pets at the house. The garden is very large and grassy, which should be kept cut, so that dog accidents can be seen, but this may not have been scheduled as we went in early spring, before the lawn is usually given a trim after the winter. Nevertheless, all in all it is a great place for a short stay and we would recommend it.

Seagulls was in a lovely position and had everything we were expecting. I would however say that it was not luxury as stated. It requires redecorating and it could do with a spring clean. It was not filthy but parts of it had not been cleaned thoroughly for a long time. However saying the above, we had a great week and Seagulls was very spacious.
