English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

This holiday home boasts delightful walks, a cosy interior and many places to enjoy an evening out with friends - truly something for everyone to enjoy.

Peacefully located in the centre of the delightful market town of Helmsley, this traditional stone built cottage-style property enjoys a contemporary interior, high specification finishes and private parking. The impressive open plan living area has a cosy wood burner that is perfect for chilly evenings, and on a warm summer’s night, open the French doors that lead out to an enclosed patio garden, and relax with a large glass of wine and your favourite book. Luxury extras include, a Sonos surround sound system, and both bathrooms having inbuilt televisions!
On the doorstep are award-winning eateries, gastro pubs and numerous interesting shops and boutiques. Helmsley boasts an Art Centre with live events and film programmes, 5 acres of beautiful walled gardens set beside the backdrop of the castle ruins and Duncombe Park, a country estate and home to the International Centre of Birds of Prey. During the summer months there is an open-air swimming pool.
The surrounding areas offer wonderful walking and cycling. The Cleveland Way starts out from Helmsley and the first part of this leads to the magnificent ruins of Rievaulx Abbey. Nestled close to the North Yorkshire Moors, Helmsley is well placed to enjoy all that Yorkshire has to offer including the famous steam train which departs from Pickering, 13 miles away, and transports visitors through stunning scenery to the ancient fishing port of Whitby. Flamingo Land and ‘Go Ape’ in Dalby Forest appeal to all ages and the spectacular coastline is within an hour’s drive. Days out can be enjoyed at the great houses of Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall. The vibrant, medieval city of York, 24 miles, is steeped in history and brimming with attractions, including the iconic Minster and the National Railway Museum. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Rye Cottage is a stunning property in a beautiful location. The finish in the house is first class. Everything you could need has been provided along with some extras - tv's in the bathrooms! Helmsley is a lovely place with, again, everything you could need. We enjoyed 2 weeks of beautiful weather also so made it a great holiday.

The cottage is new and modern and was very cosy (we stayed during a blizzard). There was underfloor heating and a log burner so the downstairs was very warm and the bedrooms were as well. There was enough space for 6 of us (and a Labrador) and the cottage was in a very quiet location (all you could hear was church bells). The location was great - quite near the centre of Helmsley and handy for the Cleveland Way. I would definitely go back (but maybe in warmer weather!)

Excellent cottage, comfortable and warm and very well located being just a short walk into Helmsley with Whitby, Scarborough, Castle Howard and the North Yorks Moors within an hour's drive. Patsy was particularly helpful and the interior décor was spot on. We will definitely be booking again soon.

The cottage is in a lovely village with lots of nice friendly bars, restaurants and shops within a stroll of the property. Good take away, and a Co-op, and an amazing bakery! Ideally situated for exploring all around the area by car too. The cottage is in a gated area with other similar new build properties, but many still unoccupied when we visited. No problem parking. The cottage is beautifully furnished inside, and has a homely, cosy feel to it. The beds are super comfortable. Kitchen has everything you require, and more. The property is spotlessly clean. The welcome pack was a lovely touch too. All though you're out and about a lot, it would be nice to have a TV in at least one of bedrooms, as the only other TV's are on the bathroom walls in two bathrooms, which isn't practical in any way to sit and watch! Particularly relevant if you have children with you, who want to watch something other than the main TV programmes in the lounge. The socket/aerial points are in the bedrooms, so not sure why there aren't any? In summary, we enjoyed a fabulous stay, would love to return sometime, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Beautiful, dog friendly, boutique-like townhouse in a small, gated modern mews courtyard setting with a minute's stroll into the thick of Helmsley town centre. Lovely and peaceful and left to ourselves. Very comfortable house with that little bit of luxury one would want on their big birthday!Picturesque town with great amenities, lovely eateries, shops and bakeries to die for!Great walks from the door. Didn't want to leave. Would highly recommend a visit to Helmsley's walled garden, an absolute delight. Hopefully will be back!
