This property is part of our Welcome Cottages collection

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

A great property for a family holiday with plenty of attractions nearby, including the South Downs, Petworth House and West Dean Gardens.

Rumbolds Retreat (ref UKC1266) is a beautifully presented, 16th-century farmhouse with superb features, such as an Aga, slate flooring in the kitchen/dining room, splendid beamwork throughout (some low) and an inglenook fire surround with a wood burner. The living room is attractively co-ordinated with rich colours and wooden flooring with Persian rugs, as well as a TV with Netflix. It is adjacent to stunning manicured grounds with the tranquil lake, pergoda and seating areas. Together with two other cottages, it is peacefully located within the grounds of a stud farm where the main barn dates back to 1578, and is one of the oldest barns in Sussex. They are surrounded by 130 acres of pasture and ancient oak forests on the border of Surrey and Sussex with public footpaths from the door.
Historic Petworth House and Gardens is about a 10-minute drive, with its plentiful antique shops, beautiful stately home and Capability gardens, and where live music concerts and outdoor theatre can be enjoyed during the summer months. The small charming town of Midhurst, famous for polo at Cowdray Park is also a short drive, as are Billingshurst, Haslemere, Gatwick and Guildford. Goodwood, with its motor and horse racing, Fontwell races, Leonardslee, West Dean Gardens, Parham House, Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, and the South Downs are all within easy driving distance. Visit Chichester, with its ornate cathedral, tea rooms, extensive shopping, festival theatre and harbour tours, or alternatively Arundel, which also has a cathedral, famous castle and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. The Witterings and other beaches are half an hour’s drive, and numerous golf courses, horse riding and fishing are also close by. London and Brighton can also be easily reached for great days out. Beach 25 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile. Property refs 30636, 31309 and UKC1266 can be booked together to accommodate up to 16 guests.

We had a wonderful stay at rumbolds. The owner was very helpful when we had a flat tyre. Their property is beautiful and relaxing. It's our second stay there and will stay again.

An absolutely fantastic location, set amongst farmland and peaceful countryside. A lovely character building, with superb gardens and a very warm and friendly welcome. Our only observation or criticism would be that some bedding options with twin beds would have made our family’s allocation of rooms easier

Susie was very helpful prior to and during our stay. We found the house to be comfortable and spacious as well as well equipped. We hope to return one day!
