Riverside Cottage lies on the southern edge of the Cairngorms National Park . A treasure trove of hiking, wildlife and spectacular scenery awaits – the wilds and mountains around Blair Atholl and Pitlochry offer fantastic walking and to the west the breathtaking views of Strathtummel give way to the wilderness of Rannoch. The village itself has shops, good tearoom, a hotel serving bar meals and of course magnificent Blair Castle just a short drive away. Golfers will enjoy the 9-hole course at Blair Atholl, with a further four good courses within ½ hours drive. Mountain biking, fishing, deer stalking, off-road driving , pony trekking and watersports, not to mention the huge selection of hill walks and easier rambles in the area ensure there is an activity to suit everyone, and if you fancy a bit of retail therapy, the famous House of Bruar is just 4 miles away. Blair Castle International Horse Trials take place in late August just a short walk from the property.
With its central location and excellent transport links, Blair Atholl is a superb spot to really get out and explore Scotland. Dundee and Perth are both accessible in around an hour by car while a trip to Edinburgh or Glasgow should take under two hours. The popular town of Pitlochry nearby is bursting with Victorian charm and has plenty of shops and eateries; discover the famous fish ladder or catch a play at the famous Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Travelling south, take in Dunkeld and Birnam and meet Mrs Tiggywinkle at the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and Garden while further on the fair city of Perth, compact and accessible, offers many historical attractions, including Scone Palace and Huntingtower and Elcho Castles. Golf is to be found throughout with forty courses in Perthshire alone! Pony trekking, white water rafting and cycling are just some of the outdoor activities available in the area while wildlife lovers will have plenty of opportunities to spot native animals and birds.
