Description

A dog friendly cottage for four with its own swimming pool and enclosed garden. Private river access with rowing boat and canoe available!

With exclusive use of its own indoor heated swimming pool, this detached, traditionally-built, single-storey holiday property is located within an area of SSSI along the peaceful backwater of the River Wensum. French doors lead to an enclosed secluded garden terrace, complete with sun loungers and barbecue, with pathway leading to private river frontage with use of seating furniture, rowing boat and canoe, where visitors can enjoy this wonderful backwater to the full, its peace only interrupted by the occasional rowing boat of an angler. The village has two pubs, shops, post office, golf course, snooker hall and extensive country walks. The city of Norwich is 5 miles for excellent shopping, theatre, castle museum, cathedral, fine restaurants, cafés and bars. Wroxham (10 miles), capital of the Norfolk Broads, offers river trips and daily boat hire to explore the expanse of waterways. A 40-minute drive leads to the Heritage North Norfolk coast, ‘Admiral Nelson’s country’, where there are Blue Flag sandy beaches, extensive salt marshes, RSPB reserves and the coastal path for excellent walking. Boat trips are available all year to visit the basking seals and Blakeney Point nature reserve. Nearby, the stately homes of Holkham and Blickling are amongst the finest in East Anglia. The Royal Sandringham Estate and museum is open to the public when the Royals are not in residence. The coastal resorts of Cromer and Sheringham offer an array of attractions for all ages, a cliff-top golf course, plenty of shops and restaurants. Still operational, the fishing harbour operates a small fleet of boats to catch succulent fresh lobsters and crabs, which are brought back to be sold locally. Promenade gardens, pier with seasonal live entertainment and the Royal Life Boat Centre can all be found at Cromer. Sheringham is headquarters for the North Norfolk Steam Railway, where during the summer trains travel back and forth along the coast to neighbouring villages. Shop 800 yards.

WE have stayed before and are staying again later this year. Its a fab bungalow and we love it. We are greeted by Lynn with a freshly baked victoria sponge, which is fabulous darlings. Our two little dogs love the bottom of the garden by the river to run around in. Its so peaceful. Wish we could go more often.

A lovely homely cottage with a great swimming-pool and direct access to the river. It was so nice to be greeted by the owner. Really appreciated being able to have a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake upon our arrival. The cottage is very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The cottage is well located to visit by car the Norfolk Broads and beaches. For us it was great to be able to bring our dog with us.

Lovely place with a lovely welcome by Lynn the owner. The swimming pool was great, as were the views of wild deer and other animals by the river at the bottom of the garden. Thank you for a fantastic week.

We stayed for a week (2 adults, 10 year old and 17 y/o and little dog). Owners next door - friendly but left us to enjoy our break. Cottage was easy to find and very handy for getting into Norwich and about 30 mins from Sheringham and Cromer for a day at the seaside. The Swimming pool was great and entertained us all (especially my daugfhter who spent hours and hours in it every day). Really good for those rainy days but actually good fun at all times - lots of floats provided and whilst not overly warm water it was fine and we found ourselves spending much more time in the cottage than we had planned as the pool and river were great. The cottage is compact. The twin bedroom is narrow and both bedrooms share the wet room. The rustic internal doors are lovely but difficult to close and open at night without disturbing others as the rooms are close together. There is also a shower facility and wc in the pool area and another wc in the utility room but this was a bit hit and miss when flushing. The double bed was not wonderfully comfy but the duvet and bedding of good quality. We all found the seating in the lounge area to be uncomfortable and insufficient even for only four and would have preferred an additional comfy chair or bigger, better sofas. The dining area was good and the gas log fire was great and boy did it kick out some heat - the cottage is very warm and cosy. The kitchen area - has all that we needed - well equipped although it felt a bit tired. It was nice to arrive to a home made cake but we would have welcomed a pint of milk and some sugar more for a cup of tea after our journey. The gardens are lovely - the river is beautiful and the boats and canoes, life jackets and little boathouse with chairs etc excellent. We spent a lot of time down there. It was so peaceful. The road that the cottage is on is narrow and at times busy but we found this to be no problem and no noise from it inside the cottage. There are a couple of pubs, a shop, post office in walking distance and Sainsbury and big stores and take away food less than 10 min drive away. We enjoyed our break. The pool and river and location were excellent and appreciate this has a bearing on the cost, but the quality of the sofas, the double bed and some of the fittings we felt let the cottage down when considering value for money and comfort.
