Ptarmigan is situated in the heart of the historic Achnacarry Estate, home to the chief of the Clan Cameron, who lives at the adjacent Achnacarry Castle. Ptarmigan occupies a wing on the ground floor of an original stone farm steading building which has recently been converted into luxury apartments in the heart of this beautiful and historical highland estate. It provides a high standard of accommodation in a unique, peaceful and totally unspoilt setting. The main living area is open plan. This stunning room has a large bright and airy living/kitchen/dining area, with traditional sash windows which drink in the wonderful views across this countryside estate. There are two twin rooms plus a double bedroom with luxury en-suite facilities. All bedrooms are superbly presented with colour coordinated soft furnishings. There is also a large family bathroom with bath with shower above.
Situated on an isthmus in between River Lochy and Loch Arkaig with the tumbling River Arkaig a few hundred yards away, Ptarmigan is surrounded by lochs, mountains and superb wildlife. With wonderful walks and cycle tracks right on the doorstep, Achnacarry Estate is an ideal retreat for an active outdoor holiday or peaceful retreat. There is an attractive lawn area of garden to the front and a pretty courtyard to the rear of the building. The steading retains its original whinstone facade with traditional large sash windows and the original bell tower with weathervane atop. There is ample car parking for up to two cars and a covered cycle rack area is provided for visitors’ use. A shared drying room is also available in a separate room of the courtyard complex for outdoor clothing, boots etc. There are also picnic tables and barbecues.
Ptarmigan can be booked together with Heron (CC511294) to accommodate up to 8 guests.
