Dating back to the 1850s and thoughtfully constructed using salvaged stone from the nearby priory ruins, this charming cottage is rich in history and character. Its distinctive arched Gothic windows and traditional stone façade create an immediate sense of timeless beauty, while inside, the cottage offers a wonderfully authentic country feel—like stepping gently back into a more peaceful era.
From the moment you arrive, Priory Cottage welcomes you as a cosy home-from-home. The ground floor features a snug and inviting lounge, where a woodburning stove provides a warm focal point. A comfortable three-seater sofa and two armchairs are perfectly arranged for relaxing evenings in front of the TV after a day exploring the moors. A separate dining room offers an elegant yet rustic space for entertaining, complete with a solid oak dining table and chairs, complemented by bespoke oak units that feature throughout the property.
The kitchen, though compact, is thoughtfully equipped with everything you need for your stay. Its quaint charm is enhanced by views over the shared rear lawned garden, creating a peaceful setting for preparing meals. Also on the ground floor is a convenient shower room.
Upstairs, the cottage continues to delight with two beautifully presented bedrooms. The twin room features bespoke built-in wardrobes designed to echo the cottage’s striking arched windows, while the master bedroom offers a comfortable double bed and a pine triple wardrobe. The spacious family shower room on this floor provides a bright and welcoming space to refresh.
Outside, the shared garden invites you to unwind and enjoy al fresco dining, with garden furniture provided for leisurely meals in the fresh moorland air. The property also benefits from useful outbuildings, including a utility room equipped with an ironing board.
Rosedale Abbey itself is one of the North York Moors’ hidden gems—a tranquil village surrounded by sweeping heather-clad moorland and dramatic valleys. Despite its peaceful setting, the village offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with traditional pubs serving hearty meals and local ales, as well as a charming café with a gift shop. It is a favourite destination for walkers and cyclists, with countless scenic routes right on your doorstep.
Beyond the village, the North York Moors National Park offers endless opportunities for adventure and discovery. Explore miles of walking and cycling trails, and take in panoramic views from Blakey Ridge.
A short drive brings you to the historic seaside town of Whitby, famed for its dramatic cliffs, sandy beaches, and iconic abbey ruins that inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Wander its cobbled streets, enjoy fresh seafood, or climb the famous 199 steps for unforgettable coastal views.
Inland, the charming market town of Pickering is the gateway to the North York Moors Railway, where you can step aboard a heritage steam train and journey through some of the most beautiful countryside in England. Pickering also offers independent shops, cafés, and the medieval Pickering Castle.
Whether you’re seeking peaceful relaxation, outdoor adventure, or a taste of Yorkshire’s rich heritage, Priory Cottage provides the perfect base.
