Description

Set in the hamlet of Martin, this detached barn conversion is constructed of a mixture of cob, flint and brick.

Set in the delightful hamlet of Martin, which has a village shop selling fresh produce and provisions, this lovely, detached barn conversion constructed of a mixture of cob, flint and brick, includes features such as oak beams, doors and floors, and a high vaulted ceiling. The owner’s home is adjacent, and part of their garden has been sectioned off with a sitting-out area and a natural, wooden, children’s play area for visitors to enjoy. The church at Martin which can be accessed directly from the property gardens, dates from Norman times, although much of its fabric is 14th century, and the village green still has the village pump; the base of the 15th century village cross can also be seen here. The area is renowned for its excellent walking - the chalk grasslands of Martin Down, 300 yards away, are a national nature reserve and there are several bridle paths which offer superb riding as well. Princess Cottage offers an ideal holiday retreat for couples or small families wishing to explore the area. The cathedral cities of Salisbury and Winchester, Southampton, with its maritime history and ferries to the Isle of Wight, Poole and Bournemouth, with its sandy beaches, are all within easy driving distance. Visit the New Forest and its many attractions, including Beaulieu Palace, Exbury Gardens and Bucklers Hard, as well as many cycling and horse riding trails. Stabling for 4 horses is available (at cost), as well as a field behind the property, for guests wishing to bring their own mounts. Beach 15 miles. Shop 100 yards, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with wooden floor. 2 bedrooms: 1 double with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 twin. Shower room with toilet. Most rooms with beams.

Electric woodburner in living room included. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Cot. High chair. Freeview TV. DVD. iPod dock. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Enclosed lawned garden with sitting-out area and furniture. Children’s play area. Barbecue. Parking (2 cars). Cycle store. Welcome pack. The cottage was perfectly adequate but a little cramped in the bedrooms. To our taste it lacked any wow factor. It opened onto a communal yard open to the road with plenty of parking space and the owners garden several yards away. The countryside is beautiful the pubs are good but 3 and 4 miles away

It was just for two of us and suited us ideally. There was a fault with the heating but the owners were very apologetic (it was not their fault!) and the alternative heater kept us warm and we did not need to take the owners up on their offer of an additional heater. We finished with the hottest day of the year! It provided everything we needed.

Wonderful cleanliness and lovely hosts. Area is beautiful and the house itself is well equipped.

The cottage, upon my arrival, was completely spotless. It was evident that the owners had spent a lot of time beforehand making my experience as pleasant as possible. They were also very friendly and helpful. There were many places to visit in close proximity to Martin, and I would definitely stay again.

Lovely stay. Could have been cleaner, and the noise from traffic was a little inconvenient with young children sleeping. Otherwise great location and friendly hosts.

This is a lovely clean cottage with a nice modern interior and the garden is great if you have kids. However, we found the showers weren't very warm and the WiFi very intermittent. Could do with a few more bits like salt and pepper etc. just to make cooking easier. But otherwise was a lovely stay and cottage was nice and warm despite very wet and rainy weather!

We stayed at Princess Cottage for a three night break. Small issue with the heating on our first night as the thermostat broke, but this was promptly resolved the next day by the owners calling an emergency plumber. Cottage feels cosy but spacious and is very well equipped and clean. Rural location but it's within easy driving distance of many local attractions. Great value for money and we would definitely stay again.

Not so suitable for seniors. Open plan not comfortable for evenings in TV rather small and difficult to view. Could do with chairs and clothes hooks etc in bedrooms and blind on roof window Owners very helpful and friendly

Response on behalf of the owner. Thank you for your feedback. The kitchen lounge is open plan as per the pictures on the website and the TV is of a normal size and this can also be seen in the photos and they do not show any chairs in the bedrooms. We do have a blind on the roof window. The cottage is made with disabled people in mind and therefore we feel is very suited to seniors, with no big steps and parking is conveniently situated directly in front of the door.
