Sitting in the heart of Mousehole this traditional, semi-detached, homely cottage is the perfect location for families looking for a relaxing holiday. The cottage is just yards from the main harbour and small sandy, family friendly beach. Portland Cottage is very much a traditional family home, comfortably furnished and without the frills of contemporary décor and furnishings. The cottage will appeal to guests looking for a spacious, homely traditional holiday property, and has the added advantage of private parking which is unusual in Mousehole.
Stroll to the village shops, art galleries, cafés, quality bistro restaurant and the pub on the quayside serving great local ales and food. Mousehole is like stepping back in time with its quaint harbour and fishing boats, making it a truly magical experience. The village is vibrant all year round with the traditional summer holiday visitors, and it is equally appealing in the winter, when guests love to watch the stormy seas and flock to see the famous Christmas lights, and partake in the seasonal festivities.
The quaint working fishing harbour of Newlyn is close by, with the Newlyn School of Art and Art Gallery. The busy town of Penzance has a convenient railway station, which provides great access to numerous coastal stations, including the scenic coastal train service to St Ives, Newquay and Falmouth. Make sure you visit the wide sweeping beach of Mounts Bay, with St Michaels Mount rising from the sea on its rocky island, and overlooking the historic town of Marazion with its small shops, art galleries and tea rooms. St Michaels Mount is open daily to the public and can be reached on foot by causeway at low tide, or by a small ferry boat at high tide. Beach 50 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

A spacious granite cottage with an annex suitable for 'granny' 3 minutes walk from the sandy harbour beach and with a driveway to park the car. The downside is that the bathrooms (renovated ? 1970s) are in need of updating & various small niggles: windows painted shut & unable to be opened, curtains in the annex bedroom need thick linings & carpet there very tatty & dirty and the interior door from the porch was jammed & needs re-hanging. The beds could also do with a mattress topper. In spite of this it was perfect for our needs (& dog) and we would consider staying again if the renovations were done. The housekeeper, Lesley, was very helpful.

Portland cottage is in a very lovely spot. The cottage is a good size and comfortable for six people with plenty of utensils and crockery to use, frying pans had seen better days unfortunately, we took our own! The sink doesn’t actually fit in it’s recess and moves and has a gap along the front edge. There are several areas within the property that also need updating as sadly. Ground floor, Bedroom unable to open sash windows as it’s painted shut. Bathroom is in need of updating and is a bit smelly, dampish mould. Upper floor, both bedrooms the wardrobe tracks and runners have seen better days, the mattress in the smaller bedroom needs replacing and the room smells of damp. The bathroom also needs a little love and care. A real bonus with onsite parking, (only small to slightly bigger than small though!!!!) there is a steel gate that stays ajar (rusted) it’s really in the way whilst parking, by the looks it hasn’t been used as a gate for a couple of decades. Total removal would be the best way forward. All in all we had a good week. Thank you.

Great location and rare parking space. House was very cosy and has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Some instructions for househokd gadgets and information eg doctors etc wouldn't go amiss. Housekeeper was very helpful and quickly resolved any issues that we had.

A lot of this cottage is in need of repair, the down stairs bathroom was not good, towel rail and toilet seat both broken. There was no handbook to give emergency phone numbers, ie local Dr, Dentist, Vets, garage etc. No instructions for the central heating, needed in October. Kitchen very bad lighting, again dangerous in October with dark mornings and early evenings. The car space was essential, quite tight, glad I don't have a 4x4. Public car park very closeby, but no spaces available all week, very few cottages in Mousehole have a parking space so parking is at a premium. Loved Mousehole, but would not stay in the village again with a car.
