Once a hive of activity and frequented by smugglers, Allonby, with cobbled lanes, Victorian charm and a history of herring fishing, has a long standing seaside heritage. Porthole Cottage has its own place in history; this former stables used to house the village donkeys and commands a prominent position right on the beachside. Now converted, this stunning holiday home offers all the indulgences and stylish interior design you could hope for from a 21st century, seaside hideaway.
All on one level, Porthole Cottage comfortably sleeps up to six guests in two spacious double bedrooms and one twin bedded room, which makes it the perfect accommodation for couples and families. The property offers contemporary and tasteful décor but is still in keeping with its coastal beginnings; the round porthole that looks out to the village offers an ever-present reminder of this property’s seaside heritage. On sunny days, guests can enjoy sitting out in the courtyard garden, complete with table and chairs, or continue through the gate 50 yards to reach the famous Allonby Beach. After a long stroll along the shore, you can throw a couple of logs on the wood burner and put your feet up in front of the TV, while enjoying a wide range of movies and box-sets courtesy of Netflix, included at no extra charge. The property benefits from lots of natural daylight, thanks to the roof light windows, and this continues throughout the property including the bathroom, where you can find a full size bath for a soak after a long day of exploring. A well equipped kitchen finishes off this stunning property.
This popular sleepy seaside village on the North West coast of Cumbria, nestled between Maryport and Silloth, has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village shop, tea rooms and fish and chip shop are within easy reach on foot, as are the two village pubs, the first of which, is just 50 yards across the road. With its long sandy beaches, Allonby offers great views over the Solway Firth to the mountains of Southern Scotland. For those seeking some more rugged outdoor adventure, this Cumbrian hotspot is only a 10 mile drive to the Lake District National Park and 16 miles to the nearest Lake, Bassenthwaite, home to the famous Lakes Distillery offering guided tours and tastings. The Lake District Wildlife Park, with over 100 species of exotic animals, makes a fun-filled day out for all ages. Beach 50 yards. Shop ¼ mile, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

We had a wonderful time at Porthole Cottage; it was perfect for us. Everything you could need was supplied, plus lovely little extras to welcome. It's almost on the beach and has 2 pubs, 2 tea rooms, a chip shop and an ice cream parlour all within walking distance (even for a toddler). The cottage was lovely and quiet and is right next to a children's play area. We were a family of five (3 generations) and everyone loved it.

A really comfortable home from home in a beautiful location. Shops are few and far between in the area so you need to be organised but don’t let that put you off! Porthole cottage is the nicest holiday rental we’ve had - and we’ve had a few!

Porthole Cottage had everything required for a perfect holiday. The property was very clean & the welcome pack with doggie treats was a lovely surprise. Having the beach right beside the property is the reason we booked it and what a beautiful beach it is. We would definitely return to Porthole cottage in the future

Thank you so much for our enjoyable stay at Porthole Cottage. The cottage was spotless and we settled straight away (a major plus when travelling with a toddler) The fire was amazing and we loved that the cottage was right on the beach. The playpark next door was great (not noisy) WiFi was strong and the Netflix was a bonus! We travelled into the Lakes most days (about an hour) but it was a perfect base without the hussle of the busy Lakes villages. Thank you so much. We would love to stay again!

Amazing little getaway. Ideally for couples or families. Well kitted out with all necessities you'd need for your stay. Nearest local supermarket is about 15mins away so not too bad. Location is ideal to 'get away from it all' and great for your furry four legged friend as easy access to grassed areas and the beach. Local pub does great homely food and very friendly service.

This Cottage is probably the best we have found so far. Attention to detail second to none. Welcome Processco and chocolates very nice idea plus treats for the dog and even dog tag to wear whilst at the cottage. You could not want more with its magnificent coastal location. Dog friendly pub and tea shop opposite. The owner has got it 150% right - well done and most definitely will be back

An excellent location, Alovely cottage well equipped very comfortable and a superb location for visiting or exploring the wonderful sites in the Lake District that we come to love. I would fully recommend this cottage to anybody who would like a quiet place to stay with lovely views excellent walks and easy access in its own right along the Hadrians way costal path and Cycle Trail, finally it has easy access to most of, in fact all of, the locations within the Lake District and Northern England. I can’t complement this cottage enough, it was hidden gem, which I shall be returning to often as I can.
