Surrounded by the rolling Galloway Hills, this beautifully converted byre situated on the Machars Peninsula warmed by the Gulf Stream.

Located in peaceful countryside and surrounded by the rolling Galloway Hills, these two adjoining byre holiday conversions provide an ideal base from which to explore this quiet Machars Peninsula with its rugged coastline and sandy beaches. Beautifully converted and furnished, they are set on an organic sheep and beef farm accessed by a well-maintained farm road and provide an ideal place to relax and unwind. On the farm, the owner milks 130 organic dairy cows and make cheese from some of the milk. They also buy in sheep and goats milk to produce a range of Cairnsmore and Millairies cheese which are available to try in the farmshop. Home to some of the most beautiful and exotic gardens, the area benefits from a temperate climate due to the gulf stream, and is a paradise for nature lovers and birdwatchers. With the beautiful Galloway Forest Park and seven stanes close by, this is a popular area for walkers and cyclists of all abilities. Sea, river and loch fishing available in the surrounding area with sailing, watersports and golf in abundance. Wigtown, Scotland’s national book town and Whithorn’s historic dig and priory all nearby, while Newton Stewart has a good range of shops, pubs, eateries, cinema and swimming pool. There are also good tennis courts and an 18-hole golf course. Shop 1 mile, pub 3 miles.

We made a very last minute booking for this cottage and weren't disappointed. A lovely warm welcome from a fellow farming family on arrival. Treats of homemade cakes and their own cheese off the farm were delicious and very much appreciated. We only needed the double bedroom but both bedrooms were spacious and our double bed was so very comfy. We only ate breakfast in the cottage, but there seemed to be everything you would need for a family in the kitchen. We were left plenty of towels for the week and wifi was excellent. We had a truly relaxing break, visiting most of the local villages and towns and Port Patrick was a special treat with its lovely beach and plenty of places to eat. Drummore was stunning and the modern cafe at the end of the peninsula was clean and the cake and cream scone were so yummy. Although there aren't many restaurants around the cottage, what we found were very welcoming, the food very tasty and we ate well all week. A truly hidden gem, which we very much hope to return to and with such wonderful hosts we hope it's not too long before we do. A quiet retreat for those who prefer to walk, read and eat out.

Great cottage, well equipped with everything you need and really clean and comfortable. If you’re looking for a peaceful holiday away from it all in the countryside Peace Cottage is perfect. Great area for cycling & walking with loads of quiet lanes & lovely scenery. Great base for us to visit an area we hadn’t been to before.

Lovely remote location, nice retreat, but near enough to Newton Stewart for stocking up. Kitchen great to cook and dine in. Double bed v comfortable. Nice touch was hospitable message on card on arrival, cake, cheeses and milk. Good Wi-Fi, TV, plus I enjoyed listening to West Sound radio in kitchen while I was cooking. Good times!
