Quaint 400 year old thatched cottage with low beamed ceilings, twisty steep stairs and downstairs bathroom. Very well equipped apart from lack of dishwasher. Lots of board games, jigsaws etc and an excellent selection of guide books and maps covering the area. Good WiFi and the television has Netflix. Comfy firm mattresses. We were there the two hottest days on record yet the thatch kept bedrooms cool.Friendly lady to welcome and advise.

We spent an enjoyable and relaxing week here. October Cottage itself is well maintained and well equipped, with everything you’d need in the kitchen, cot, high chair, and some toys for babies and toddlers, a range of board games, and information folders with ideas for things to do. Like all old cottages the downstairs ceiling is low and the stairs steep, as we expected. Unlike some reviewers we found the beds perfectly comfortable. The garden is mainly grass with a patio with table and chairs. Aughton is a good base for exploring this part of Wiltshire: Pewsey, Marlborough, and Salisbury are a short drive away. There are numerous footpaths leading from the village, so you can quickly get into the countryside.
