Enjoy a quiet rural holiday in this barn conversion, with a sandy beach just a 10-minute drive away.

Situated in a quiet, rural part of Anglesey, this cluster of detached holiday properties are located at Melin Newydd windmill, which has been featured on Channel 4’s ’Restoration Man’ with George Clarke. The Windmill (ref 29567) has a lovely living area on the ground floor and a double bedroom on each of the first and second floors, from where a steep, space saver staircase leads up to a third floor living room with a balcony and fabulous views out over the surrounding countryside. Full of original features oozing character, The Windmill has been the subject of a simply stunning restoration, which makes this a cosy and quirky place to stay. Owl Cottage (ref 29569) features a conservatory living room, with picture windows opening to the fields, and two gallery bedrooms, whilst The Top Barn (ref 29568) is another barn conversion with lots of original features. These three properties are just a 10-minute drive from the delightful sandy beach at Rhosneigr - indeed, with 125 miles of coastline on the Isle of Anglesey you’re never far away from a beach or rocky cove to explore. A short distance away is the RSPB reserve at South Stack near Holyhead, whilst children will love Foel Farm Park or Anglesey Sea Zoo at Brynsiencyn. The NT mansion of Plas Newydd is well worth a visit, as is pretty Beaumaris with its castle, whilst the mountains of Snowdonia can be easily reached back on the mainland. Beach 5 miles. Shop and pub 3 miles, restaurant 5 miles.

Ground floor: Living room/conservatory with French doors and wooden floor. Dining room with wooden floor/kitchen with slate floor. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet. Steep paddle stairs to 1 double galleried bedroom. Second steep paddle staircase to 1 twin (2ft 6in, for children) galleried bedroom.

Owl cottage was perfect for a relaxing, get away break. The views from the lounge were lovely and it was private. The kitchen/diner was impressive. The quirky stairs were not for everyone! The location was great, a little isolated but well situated for exploring the whole island. I apologise for forgetting to leave an account of our holiday in the visitors book, as we had such a wonderful time, visiting many beaches etc, and found lovely cafes and pubs on our travels.

Owl cottage could be a fantastic place to stay if a little bit of money was spent on it. Whilst it was clean it is need of refurbishment in certain areas, mainly the wooden conservatory. The kitchen is lacking a decent set of pans to cook with and the crockery is on its last legs with chipped plates. Outside needs more than a cheap wooden pub bench to sit on especially in the warm weather. Whilst these are simply cosmetic touches, it is the very little things that make the difference. Getting to a more serious issue though is the fact that persons unknown are entering Owl Cottage when you are out for the day. There is a 4 digit lock box which we left the key in daily incase our son came home early from his day out. On the Friday I locked the key away and set a specific number and as we were all going to the same place for the day we would know if somebody was entering .... Upon our return the code to unlock was already entered on the box. The caretaker said he would contact the owner as he had not entered the property at all.... There are no daily cleaners. Had no feedback from anyone despite CCTV on the premises.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback and suggestions which are always welcomed. We take any reviews lower than an 8 very seriously, and would like to address the comments made. The property does not have Wi-Fi and this is explained within the property description on the website. Unfortunately, the property is located so remotely that there is no broadband infrastructure and no mast to boost signal. No one has previously raised this as a point. There is no need for blankets in the conservatory as it has full central heating with 2 very large radiators. It can in fact get too hot in there when the heating is on throughout the property so people often turn the radiators down to 3 out of 5. Perhaps you turned the radiators in there down at some stage and did not turn them back up at night time. Apologies for the lack of our usual welcome treat. This must have simply been a mistake, particularly given that the butter was provided and not the Welsh cake as well. Cleanliness - the property is cleaned to a very high standard and we are used to getting very high scores for this area in particular. I will discuss this with the housekeeper but given our normal standards and reviews, I’m confident this must have been a one-off and possibly a small amount of dust/cobwebs found in a small area.
