Description

An original 18th-century fisherman’s cottage with magnificent views over the Solway Estuary with wood-burning stove and wheelchair access.

Peacefully set with panoramic views over countryside to the Nith Estuary, these detached, single-storey holiday cottages have their own garden and have been furnished and equipped to the STB’s ‘4 Star’ standard. Conheath Gatelodge is a traditional Georgian cottage with many original features, whilst Martha’s Shore Cottage was an original fisherman’s cottage dating back to 1700 - generations of Martha’s artistic family lived here and her father was the stone mason for the farm estate, and cut stone for the owner’s farmhouse. There are lovely riverside walks from the door with abundant birds and wildlife to spot. There are many quiet roads ideal for cycling, and excellent wildfowl salt-marshes surrounding Caerlaverock Castle, 3 miles away. Solway Firth is easily accessible. Dumfries, 3 miles, has good shopping, restaurants, cinema and sports facilities. Sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages, castles and nature reserves within easy reach. Shop/P.O. and good village pub ½ mile.

A cottage with magnificent views over the Solway Estuary from one side. Ramp to entrance. Large living room with wood-burning stove and patio doors to garden. Well-equipped fitted kitchen/dining room. Utility. Two twin bedrooms, one with en-suite shower room and toilet and one with en-suite wet room and toilet equipped for disabled. Double bedroom with 5ft bed and en-suite bathroom with shower cubicle and toilet. Separate toilet.

Its a beautiful, spacious, modern cottage in a great location. Everything was fresh and clean as well as being warm and comfortable and the view at the back of the cottage of the tidal stretch of the River Nith looking down towards Glencaple village, with an abundance of estuary birdlife, was quite spectacular.

Was a wonderful cottage, bigger than expected with 3 bedrooms and 3 and 1/2 baths. Jeanette left us some biscuits for tea and a very nice bouquet of flowers!! This cottage was very close to my relatives so the location was #1 priority. Extremely well done home, lots of plates, glasses, towels, etc. Wasn't expecting a dryer, but there it was!! Loved the location right on the river, so pretty and the views were exceptional. Would highly recommend staying here, thank you Jeanette, was very nice meeting you also.

Staying at 'Martha's Shore cottage' was a very relaxing experience. The views from the rear of the property are stunning, it was hard to tear yourself away & go out. The cottage is a real home from home . the beds are comfortable ,all 3 bedrooms ensuite which made getting ready very quick & easy. The kitchen was well equipped & had everything that was needed. appliances easy to use. The lounge had plenty of comfortable seating & those stunning views. It was very relaxing to sit on the patio & watch the wild life by the river, there are good walks from the cottage door too.The main city Dumfries only 10 minutes away & loads of attractions & forrest walks within an hours drive. This an excellent cottage, the only quibble was that the hot water was not hot enough & fumes from boiler, but we would definitely love to book another stay
