We had an amazing time at Maesmor. The house is cosy and with very nice view at Bala Lake. We had everything that we need. It is a very quite area, so if you are looking to escape from the chaos in the city, this is the place to go.

First impression were very good. It is an older property which has kept some of its original features. We needed to be based in Bala and Maesmor was the ideal location, although we didn't actually spend a lot of time in the property. A few issues were found in the kitchen area, which we dealt with! We all found the shower difficult, due to the positioning of the shower head and the sloping roof above. Some attention to detail would enhance this property.

Firstly Maesmor is not a cottage it’s a semi detached house in a street full of similar houses. We stayed here for 3 nights 26-29 October 2019. When we arrived at the house there was no heating on so it was cold and took a while for it to warm up not the best ‘warm’ welcome. Our first impression was that it is in great need of decorating there was Woodchip wallpaper coming off the walls in places. Also, the woodwork could definitely do with a lick of paint as it was very tatty. The bedrooms were of a decent size and the beds were very comfortable but when I first saw them I thought someone had been sleeping in them and just thrown the covers over- the bedding looked like it had seen better days. It’s advertised as 4* so I would expect decent bedding. The bathroom has a shower over the bath -that’s fine, except you have to bend to take a shower as the ceiling slopes over the bath and is covered with wallpaper!! Also, there aren't any blinds on the window. There were grubby cloths stuck behind a notice at the end of the bath- not really what you want to see. Maybe the owner could have a cupboard built somewhere for the cleaning products and tools as the hoover was left out in the dining room along side an ironing board and the mop and bucket just left out in the kitchen. The oven was broken when we arrived but credit to the owner, she had a new one put in the next day and gave us £10 towards the takeaways we had to buy as we had already bought pizzas to heat in the oven. The paddock outside which we were told we could use, had 3 sheep in and was full of dog muck, so the children couldn’t play in it. I appreciate she can’t be held responsible for the mess, but it’s not really suitable for children to play in if there’s sheep in it, especially as I had 3 boys wanting to play football!! The patio area isn’t the most pleasant area to sit in had the weather been nice - it’s a small gravel area next to the bins and garages. All in all, I would say the house is no more than 2* I have stayed in 4* cottages before and Maesmor just doesn’t compare. The owner seemed very nice and asked me not to give her a bad review as she was trying her best, which I am sure she feels she is and I would like to think it’s more a constructive review rather than a bad one.

Response on behalf of the owner; Maesmor is a house that overlooks fields and Bala lake to the rear, it has its own private drive. We do not advertise it as a cottage. It is always kept to the highest standard as you can seen from the previous reviews with a score of 9. There were three young boys in the family I can only think maybe they had been on the beds before anybody else went upstairs. There is plenty of sitting out area at the property. All the people that have stayed at Maesmor enjoy seeing the lambs in the fields when they are there. The paddock is dog free so it wouldn’t have had dog muck on there.
