Description

A unique retreat for families or friends looking to explore the wonders of west Wales. Relax in the grounds and enjoy the coastal view.

Situated in a truly magnificent location with spectacular views over the glistening Carmarthen Bay and beautiful Gower Peninsula (AONB), this unique, detached holiday home provides the most outstanding getaway retreat for families or groups looking to explore west Wales. Located down a quiet country lane and accessed by electric gates, it lies just a 15-minute drive from the charming coastal village of Burry Port. This holiday home was inspired by an architectural ‘split-level’ design which features two separate living areas, comprising a large living room with a beautiful marble fireplace, farmhouse-style kitchen with a range cooker, dining room, conservatory and a large games room with a full-size snooker table, darts and football table. Each room has been thoughtfully put together with a matching theme throughout to provide guests with a memorable holiday experience. Outside, guests can enjoy the well-kept gardens which feature private patio areas - perfect for alfresco dining on a sunny day!
Conveniently located in an excellent touring location, guests can enjoy fantastic walks along the scenic Pembrey Country Park with 8 miles of golden sands at Cefn Sidan. Pembrey must be the only place in Europe where visitors can sunbathe, swim and hunt for shipwrecks on the beaches, then experience the thrill of a toboggan run or race down the park’s dry ski slope. Enjoy a round of golf at the famous Jack Nicklaus course, Llanelli or the Ashburnam links course, or watch live sport at the Llanelli Scarlet’s Rugby Stadium and nearby Ffos Las Racecourse. A short drive inland brings guests to the county’s rolling countryside which is scattered with charming market towns including Llandeilo and Carmarthen, as well as numerous medieval sites dotted around. A trip to Carmarthenshire is not complete without a visit to Laugharne, which was formerly home to famous Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, who described the charming village as ‘the strangest town in Wales’. Take a 40-minute drive into Pembrokeshire and discover the award-winning leisure attractions of Oakwood, Folly Farm and Anna’s Welsh Zoo. Beach 3 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Split level internal staircase. Large living room with gas coal-effect fire in marble surround. Large dining room. Spacious farmhouse-style kitchen with gas/electric range (for cooking), breakfast area and tiled floor. Utility. Conservatory. Games room. Two double bedrooms on ground floor, one with 6ft bed and en-suite bathroom with toilet, one with 5ft zip & link bed (can be twin on request) and additional bunk (for +2). Twin bedroom. We had a lovely time, however the property could do with updating as a lot of the furnishings are a bit tired and the outside could do with professional cleaning. The matting in the games room required a bit of shuffling to get rid of the trip hazards, but nothing stopped us enjoying our time there and if the opportunity arose we would go back.

Maes Y Wawr is a lovely large property in a great location with excellent views. We were a group of 10 (4 adults, 6 children) and it was the perfect size for us with plenty of space for the children to play in. The games rooms is an excellent room (although it could do with a bit more lighting) and was well used during our stay there. Our only issues were the lack of a few things in the house, namely dishwasher tablets, more than one kitchen towel, spare toilet rolls, handwash in the bathrooms and kitchen. The buttons on the thermostat also only seemed to work if you took the battery out and put it back in again. Overall though, the house was perfect for us and we would recommend it and would consider returning again in the future.

Not a very good review I could write unfortunately! We have found a dead mouse in the kitchen and we were terrified and we had to clean all the cutlery, pots and pans!! Very poor cleanliness in the bed rooms! Some of the radiators were not working and game room was ice cold! No TV was working two nights out of 4 we stayed!! Annoyed kids 🙁May be not a good choice during winter but during summer this place will be great (we presume but we wouldn't go there again!!). We have chosen this place to stay over Xmas but we were disappointed!! Large house and good size for few families to share! Trying hard to write something positive!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are sorry that you were disappointed by our property and are extremely concerned by your comments. We have high standards but problems can sometimes arise. Our aim is then to rectify those problems in the shortest possible time and to our visitors’ complete satisfaction. Clearly, it was not our intention to welcome you with a dead mouse. However, within 10 minutes of receiving your message, our cleaners were at the property. They disinfected the surfaces throughout the house and removed the woodlice you found when moving one of the beds. You confirmed you were completely satisfied with the cleanliness of the property before they left. Nevertheless, so as to avoid any further incidents of this kind, we have now appointed a pest control company to monitor the property. Unfortunately, you did not inform us of any problems with the Sky box until the second day of your stay. We arranged for an emergency call out engineer to attend the property and the Sky TV was fixed within 24 hours. In any event, there is a second TV at the property which was fully functional for the entire length of your stay. When you raised concerns about the heating, we explained that there were 2 heating zones, both of which needed to be on for all radiators to work. We heard nothing further from you in this regard, even though our caretaker was at the property dealing with the Sky engineer. We therefore assumed that all was well. In any event, there are a number of electric fan heaters at the property which could have been used. Whilst we note your disappointment, we too are concerned by information, received after your departure, that you greatly over-occupied our property during your visit. To do so is, of course, is a clear breach of contract and completely unacceptable.
