We visited Little Beck in May 2019 and were so happy with the accommodation and its location that we decided to visit again in July 2022. Unfortunately, Little beck has a few issues, some of which existed during our first stay and are very minor, to a few that did impact our experience in the Lake District during our latest visit. The policy for dogs has been updated from 2019 to 2022 such that you are no longer allowed to leave your dog in Little Beck unsupervised. In 2019 a crate was provided by Gill Head Farm, and we were allowed to crate our dog in Little Beck for a short time while we visited some of the less dog friendly establishments in the area during an evening or two. This policy has unfortunately changed meaning we weren’t able to visit some of the establishments we would have liked to and this is something to bear in mind for new and returning visitors. Access to WiFi is advertised on the webpage for Little Beck, but this was unfortunately not available or broken while we stayed this time round. Inside Little Beck there is absolutely no telephone signal, 4G/5G connection (or any mobile internet of any kind), and now no WiFi. This made planning our walks, dinner reservations, and keeping in touch with family a much more arduous task that we would have better planned for before our visit if we knew the present situation with the internet connection. The last change that impacted our stay was that the new bed in Little Beck is towards the extreme end of hard. It took quite a few days to get used to, going from a medium hardness bed to the very hard bed now in Little Beck. The first few nights were somewhat sleepless, but we did get used to it after a time. The last couple of issues are very minor that we remember from our last stay and still persist today. The kitchen could be better stocked. Particularly the normal drinking glasses in that there are only two. There are also two wine glasses, two brandy glasses, and two champagne flutes, but another two normal drinking glasses wouldn’t go a miss. The general cleanliness of Little Beck could be improved with minimal effort. The tea mugs were stained, but this was easy enough to clean while we were there, and the bathroom had a few cobwebs and a rather smelly shower mat. To summarise, Little Beck has lost some of its appeal and charm in the last few years but still remains a fabulous getaway for a couple and their dog, located in an excellent part of the Lake District, with good connections to Keswick and the surrounding walks. We had a lovely time in Little Beck, however, I don’t think we will be back.
