What a wonderful cottage! The location, for us, was ideal -- and an easy jaunt to York. Clean and well equipped, Lilac Studio offered everything we needed for three days in Wheldrake and the greater York area. The cottage has ample parking with easy access and is suitable for a family of four. Wheldrake is a charming village and the cottage is quiet and peaceful. Superb value -- a supremely affordable option for our family's visit to the area. Our only caution was the beds -- while sizeable, they were some of the hardest beds we had ever slept on. If a remarkably stiff bed suits you, then you will be fine. Otherwise, we recommend you bring an air mattress or other cushioning to ensure a good night's sleep.

Served our purpose well as close to Park and Ride to City Centre. Only criticism would be that although clean, the bedding and towels were a bit "tired".

Love the studio. Very suitable for us with proximity to York and good bus route. A little more attention to cleanliness eg cutlery drawer!!

Such a lovely setting and home from home with facilities to cater for also. Don't fret about no WiFi or phone as we all really need to unwind and escape to such tranquillity.

The size of the cottage was ideal for a couple. It was set in a quiet location and there was plenty of room to park outside (you share a drive with the neighbours!). It was unfortunate that there was no wifi in the property and phone signal was poor there also. However, we were still able to keep ourselves entertained by other means. The kitchen could have done with a few more utensils. The heating system was great and the shower was powerful enough. We found the beds comfy and our overall stay was very relaxing and memorable. York and the surrounding areas must be explored!!! It was very handy to be so near a park and ride service at the nearby Designer Outlet.

The Lilac studio was ok. It had everything that you needed, however, there could be some improvements. The mattress is very very lumpy and hard and this has been mentioned before and nothing has been done about this. There seems to be a misshaped mattress in the main bedroom so this needs to be changed asap. The second point is that a welcome tray would have been a nice touch; Thirdly, it is stated that there is no wifi, however, this really needs to be updated to have wifi in the property as this would put alot of people off staying here. The Lilac studio was warm and cosy and had everything you needed, apart from a cosy bed and internet- have these two things done, it would be amazing .

We love staying at the cottage we've been coming on and off for years, owner lovely and surrounding neighbours very friendly too, convenient for both York and surrounding areas. I wouldn't stay anywhere else when visiting the area lilac studio is excellent. Sheep in the field opposite and visits from the wee squirrels too.

Our answer to the question as to whether we would stay here again is misleading. We never stay twice at the same place - except once in Dorset where we returned for one night to collect something we had left behind A general assessment is difficult. Some things were very good; others definitely not. Starting with the good things: TV excellent, information folders and supply of leaflets about local attractions very good (but waste collection schedules out of date), arm chair and settee very comfortable but no light behind so couldn't read after dark. Central heating controls very easy to use, although not in the sitting room as stated in the folder. Generally very well furnished with many good features. We found the space, or lack of it, acceptable for the two of us, but we wouldn't have wanted to have shared with another couple The owner assured us that the sheets had been laundered. However, they didn't look or smell fresh. The main gripe is that the beds were far two hard for our taste, and we think for most peoples One other point. On the Friday morning at 7am before my wife was uo, I fell off my bicycle in the drive, cutting myself quite badly. I couldn't see the first aid box and got the one out of my car instead. I recommend a larger first aid box and much larger signs to show where it is. lastly, we recommend a more generous welcome pack. We did not take any photos
