A stay at Lendal Tower will take guests through a historical story, one which is sure to capture the hearts of any history enthusiast. Playing a key role in the city’s defence system during the 14th-century, this stunning 700-year-old Ancient Scheduled Monument provides truly unique and breathtaking accommodation. It has been awarded a Visit England 5 Star Gold Award so you can rest assured the accommodation is of excellent standard.

In keeping with the tower’s magnificent history, the property has been beautifully renovated to combine the traditional with the contemporary. It keeps its original wood panelling and a charming spiral staircase twists inside the tower.

Set right in the heart of York’s medieval city, Lendal Tower enjoys a superb central location. With plenty of attractions nearby, guests will be spoilt for choice. Those who love history will be in their element, with many other historical buildings to explore. Take a tour around The Treasurer’s House, a National Trust property, or The Merchant Adventurer’s Hall, where you can unravel the stories of the past or wander amongst the picturesque gardens. Those with families may wish to go on an educational tour of the National Railway Museum, or the Jorvik Centre where you can learn some important Viking battle tactics! Meander along the cobbled winding streets through to the Shambles, or stroll along the high street, both of which are ideal for shopaholics. If you wish to venture further afield, the North York Moors and the east coast are easily accessible. Enjoy a day at the beach in Scarborough, Bridlington or Filey, and don’t forget to sample some delicious fish and chips prior to returning to the city before dusk falls to enjoy one of the spooky ghost walks. Shop and pub 30 yards.

Great property.Warm welcome from Nathan. Lovely garden and roof terrace. Fully equipped kitchen. Massive bedrooms with comfortable beds. Garage to park which is a massive bonus for York. Down side because of central location it can be a bit noisy at night. Lots of stairs. Had a lovely long weekend.

Thoroughly enjoyed our week at Lendal Tower. We had gorgeous weather, so made full use of the amazing views on the terrace. As there is a small ladder to get to the top, we found that making up a flask (which we took with us) and carrying it up, was much easier than carrying hot drinks in cups up. We were right in the heart of York, which was fantastic for dining/shopping/walking the walls etc. We did use the car on a few occasions (the garage was a little tricky to manoeuvre in and out of). We only had one car - which it would have been more tricky with two cars. However, once you get used to it, it's fine. The property was very clean and tidy and it was probably one of the best 'stocked' kitchens I've been to - and I've been to a lot. We are used to silence at night-time. However, York can be a little rowdy on a Friday and Saturday night. You can hear one or two people walking past at 4.00am...... we soon got used to the noise of the traffic. We visited the Cathedral, Train Museum, a local Circus, went Alpaca walking, walked the City Walls, meals, shopping etc etc. Children of 14 and 12 were kept busy all week. With all the negatives above (parking, noise etc) - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the property to friends and family. A very special building, steeped in history and it was weird to be sat at the top, on the balcony and hear the cruise boats pass by, talking and looking at Lendal Tower. Sat there watching the canoeists, ducks, people watching and listening to the chimes of York Minster was fantastic.

Wonderful spot. Lots of feeling of history & authenticity, but full of modern touches and very sturdy improvements (great bannisters). The rooftop is lovely - even if chilly in March - perfect for a sunset glass of champagne. Really well-equipped kitchen - except nearly all the pans are coated to resist sticking, and completely all cooking implements are metal - so most pans are understandably quite scratched. We bought & left behind one non-stick spatula, so hopefully no more damage will happen.

I don’t have anything negative to say about Lendal Tower - what an amazing place - would highly recommend. Perfect location to discover the beautiful city of York (though not for those with limited mobility due to stairs, but the clue is in the name)

Whilst the accommodation does not come cheaply, the price you pay is perfectly justified. The property is unique in that it has retained its historical charm but also managed to include all of your modern comforts, equipment and gadgets. We went to Lendal Tower to make special memories; we achieved that and a lot more.

A truly outstanding place to stay. Right in the centre of York with everywhere you'd want to visit in the city a short walk. The mezzanine bedroom is beautiful but not ideal in that there's no en-suite meaning it's a distance to the bathroom should you need it but otherwise this place is perfect. We were re-booking for 2019 on the way home from our stay in 2018 which is a first for us and we've been staying in self catering accommodation for 15 years.
