It is about 4 miles from Cullompton and M5 junction. Coast at Beer, Sidmouth and Exmouth, 30 minutes’ drive. Good base for Exmoor, Dartmoor and Exeter. Leisure facilities available include fishing, horse riding and swimming. Village shop and pub ¼ mile.

    This was not our ideal cottage. It was cramped (cosy is probably the term used - indeed it is, see below!)) and rather dark. The notion of putting £1 coins into the meter is archaic, and on arrival we found ourselves totally in the dark while we floundered round looking for the meter cupboard. The garage was locked on our (delayed)( arrival - we had been told it would be open) - and we had to go to two neighbouring cottages looking for the keys. On the plus side, the village pub is lovely, the shop obliging and the surrounding area very pleasant.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; We appreciate the comments of the writer but would point out that this property is nearly 3 hundred years old and retains many original features. By the nature of its age the windows are small and in keeping with the building. The photographs that are available to view prior to booking clearly depict the size of rooms and the garden areas. We consider the rooms to be adequate for holiday purposes with 2 double bedrooms and a large single bedroom upstairs. The downstairs accommodation is, we believe, appropriate and proportionate. Regrettably we have found it necessary to install an electric meter as we have found that some previous guests have run up high costs during their stay. The meter runs on economy 7 and during the evening between 12 night and 7am will supply cheap power to the new storage heaters that have been installed and hot water tank. Our agent has now been instructed to feed the meter prior to the guest arriving so that power is on. Coins are also left next to the meter for the customers use in the event of them not having any available. We are sorry that the customer had difficulty in finding the keys on his arrival but it is a practice that the customer is contacted prior to the holiday by the owner and informed of the key location. It would appear on this occasion that our on-site agent may have retained the keys due to the delayed arrival of the client. The agent does however live next door to the property and was therefore available to provide a set of keys.
