What we love

Description

This 14th-century castle is the perfect retreat for a luxurious gathering with family, where you can relax with your feet up around the wood burner.

Knock Old Castle dates back to the 14th-century and has been fantastically resurrected by the current owner into a truly unique, whimsical, fairytale castle. In what has been a 5 year long project, this detached castle has been lovingly restored. Local craftsmen have utilised their skills, imagination and expertise to make this property into something that will amaze every guest.
From the quirky doors and interior, where no straight lines will be found, to the sauna in the tower, and the painted ceiling in the keep, to the stunning views over the sea from the glass domed lookout, and not forgetting the sheep grazing on the wild flower roof. Old Knock Castle will be sure to exceed every expectation.
The castle is situated on the Ayrshire coast, in a private setting, 200 yards from the owner’s home, with only a short walk from the shore and close to the bustling town of Largs with its shops, restaurants and promenade. This holiday property is ideally located to explore the islands of Cumbrae, Arran and the Isle of Bute. Ferries run to Dunoon and the Cowal Peninsula, giving access to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
Ayrshire offers a varying coastline with villages, beaches and rocky coves to explore, and is an ideal location for cyclists and walkers, with Skelmorlie heralding the start of the Ayrshire Coastal Path, a 100 mile long coastal walk. Inland there is walking, cycling, gardens and castles to visit, riding, fishing, racing and a choice of golf courses, including the world famous open venues of Troon Prestwick and Turnberry.
Culzean Castle Country Park, extending over 550 acres, has a network of wooded trails passing along the beach. Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily reached for a day trip, with rail links available from the town. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

We had the most amazing stay in this wonderful castle-the best property by far that we have stayed in. The occasion was my granddaughter's 9th birthday celebration and the children loved the quirkiness of this beautiful castle. The views from the hot tub were stunning.

Fantastic weekend break away with the Girls, location absolutely wonderful and stunning, unfortunately a few niggles with finishing touches and the 'little things' (all easily rectified) plus a problem with the water supply meant it just didn't quite live up to the very high expectations of luxury set by all the marketing materials and cost.

The most amazing fairytale castle that we didn’t have to share ! The place is to die for and we had all the grounds to explore as well. Near to beautiful Largs and the ferry to island hop ! We celebrated our anniversary there with a hand fasting ceremony my husband in his kilt and me in my wedding dress a medieval gown , what a fitting setting. One word to describe it MAGICAL 😍💕💗

No amount of pictures can prepare you for the breathtaking beauty of this property, we have just had the most amazing two weeks here and being able to take the dogs was fantastic. The castle is stunning and restored to an incredibly high standard, the lawns and grounds are also fabulous and there is so much space. The town is also really lovely and there is lots to do in the area. We booked to go again while we were still there and can’t wait to return. A truly unique property which does not disappoint!

Had a great time staying in a castle - 2 families with kids. It was just before Christmas so it was decorated with lots of Christmas decorations and a tree which we loved. Plenty of space for kids to run around and explore. We were also able to take our dogs which meant our whole family could enjoy the experience. Loved the attention to detail - there were things for the dogs, games and toys for the kids and even bath robes in the top bedroom for using to come down the turret stairs.
