Tucked beside the River Corve in a quiet village, this pretty country cottage is a peaceful base for couples, friends or families looking to explore south Shropshire. Sleeping five guests in three bedrooms, the cottage has been completely renovated by its owners from top to bottom, creating a comfortable and welcoming home that still feels full of character.
The kitchen and dining room are well equipped for easy meals together, while the separate sitting room is made for slower evenings, with a warming log burner to come back to after a day outdoors. A ground-floor bathroom adds practical convenience, and the bedrooms upstairs have a calm, restful feel, with lovely views across the surrounding countryside. Outside, there is a generous garden to enjoy with a morning coffee or a drink at the end of the day, while the large driveway provides parking for up to three cars. Dogs are very welcome too, with open countryside and riverside walks close by.
This is a wonderfully unspoilt pocket of south Shropshire known for its rolling fields, quiet lanes and beautiful walking country. With public footpaths on the doorstep and the river running alongside the cottage, there is no need to get in the car to begin exploring. Head out for a gentle wander through the village and surrounding fields, or follow one of the longer routes through the valley, taking in the views as you go.
Craven Arms is a short drive away and is a useful place for supplies, cafés and a visit to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre. It is also home to Stokesay Castle, one of England’s best-preserved fortified manor houses, with its impressive gatehouse, timber-framed interiors and lovely grounds. For a bigger day out, Ludlow is within easy reach, known for its independent food shops, market, excellent restaurants and handsome historic centre.
Walkers will be spoilt for choice, with the Shropshire Hills, Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley all within reach for a more adventurous day out. Equally, this is a lovely place to do very little: enjoy the garden, listen to the river and settle in by the fire after a day spent exploring.
