Keeper’s Cottage is a cosy little cottage adjacent to the owner’s home on a smallholding in a wonderful rural location. Cosy and welcoming, it has a delightful living room with large wood burner, perfect for those chillier evenings. The dining room opens onto the well-equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are on the first floor as well as a family bathroom and the added advantage of a downstairs shower room. It’s the perfect little bolt hole to enjoy either a few days or a week exploring the wonderful countryside.
There is a huge variety of attractions to keep your occupied nearby. Walk along quiet country lanes you can immerse yourself or walk round Kirkconnell Flow Nature Reserve an impressive example of an ancient, raised bog, one of the most threatened habitats in the world. Just over a mile from Mabie Forest you enjoy a variety of activities including many and varied walking trails and some of the world-class 7Stanes mountain biking trails including some great singletrack, downhill and uphill. Mabie also boasts some fantastic blue and green trails for beginners, and the ever-popular Phoenix Trail is 12 miles of hugely enjoyable red-grade trails for the more experienced rider. Experts are catered for, too, with the Dark Side Northshore mountain bike trail. All this can be enjoyed only a stone’s throw away from Keeper’s Cottage!
Further afield, this beautiful area of southwest Scotland has so much more to offer, from quiet sandy coves and cliff top walks to the many castles, such as Caerlaverock and Drumlanrig. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, the area has plenty of beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens, managed by the National Trust and Logan Botanic Gardens, Scotland’s most exotic garden. A stay here would not be complete without taking a drive along the coast and a wander round the little seaside villages of Southerness, Rockcliffe and Kippford. Beach 10 miles.
