Description

Just off the Cleveland Way this property is ideal for larger groups, with wood floors, four poster and enclosed garden.

Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War 1 army barracks are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining 7 lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of parking and an outdoor sitting area.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks as well as golf links nearby. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafes and a restaurant. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.
NB: As the four lodges are in close proximity to one another, they could be booked for groups of up to 24 guests. Additional en-suite rooms available on site, on request with owner.

A really enjoyable stay in a lovely , well situated cottage. Will definitely go back! I would say to anyone thinking of booking don't be put off by having to pay for the electric in a coin meter as we were a family of 8 and we all had showers/baths every day and used the cooker several times and it wasn't expensive at all.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your positive comments. It’s great you could reassure guests about the electric. The main fuel for heating and water is gas which is included. Thanks again.

Plenty of room for a large family, comfortable facilities but not luxurious - the plumbing was a bit suspect. Lovely location.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry you experienced a problem with the plumbing. We always service and repair the property and also have annual Landlord inspections on the heating system. I’m not sure what the problem was for you. I’d like to reassure you either myself or a member of our family will always be a phone call away should you incur a problem, I also live about 15 mins away from the Cottages and happy to help when needed if you contact me. Kind regards and thanks again for your feedback.

Spent an October week with my family. Plenty of space and beds for 7 adults and 6 children plus a new born. Cottage was nice and cosy, with a large kitchen, separate large dining room and two good size sitting rooms. Loads of places to explore.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your positive comments; I’m pleased Captains Quarters was ideal for your family. I’m hoping guests like the redecorated lounge. We aim to please.

Very well appointed holiday accommodation for a large group.Well thought through and welcoming.A few minor things missing in terms of kitchen equipment like a decent salad bowl.Staithes is delightful .This location is a bit out on a limb and at the end of a week one was aware of living in former army barracks however well disguised and imaginatively presented.

Fabulous place but site still under renovation. Did not appreciate having to put £1 coins in for electric especially with children in the party, cost of holiday home enough to cover electricity used.
