Lovely quaint cottage with a fantastic large enclosed garden which our dog loved. Nice quiet safe village with feiendly locals. Shona was very friendly and helpful. Her dog dooley was lovely and made friends with our dog rocco. We will definitely be back.

We had a very peaceful stay at Iona Cottage and it was certainly very well equipped. I wouldn’t particularly recommend it for a number of reasons though. I think, because it welcomes pets, which I do appreciate, it does mean there is a certain doggy aroma, which I particularly noticed in the bedroom and found quite off-putting. The other reason was that there were limited activities from the cottage which didn’t involve driving somewhere. I prefer to be able to do more on foot. The Savings Bank Museum, the cross in the church and the Brow Well were very interesting, but could be done in a day. You then had to venture further afield.

My husband and I spent a wonderful week in Iona cottage in May. We had wonderful weather for the whole week. The owner of the cottage, who lived next door was very helpful and she suggested various places to go and what to see in the area. There was a wonderful wood burner in the living room which runs the central heating and was very easy to operate. There was everything that we needed and I loved the walk-in- wardrobe in the bedroom. There was also plenty of books, games and DVD's to keep one occupied if needed

A bit away from nearest shops at Annan about 6/7 miles. Iona Cottage is an old Whin stone build and can be very cold in January/February. It's only heating is a solid fuel fire that gives off sufficient heat for the lounge! But does not have the capacity to heat the hall, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom/Sep toilet. (No mains gas) would benefit from a new solid fuel pumped driven system. Also the owner requests that you top up the electricity meter with £1 coins during your stay! We put 10 X £1coins in it for our 4 day stay to cover the electric hob/oven & shower which was used economically.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; My first reaction to this review was disappointment. All our recent scores have been 10/10 - however I feel I should respond to these comments. The fire in question is a Clearview and it is only two years old - it is actually oversized for the cottage but we felt that was an advantage. I know from experience (I lived in the cottage for a year) that the fire if well managed heats the house beautifully and when there are no guests in cold weather I light the fire to prevent any problems. The fire has to be filled with coal or logs to run the heating and of course the fire has to be raked out daily and the ashes removed. If coal is used the fire will happily run ALL day or night. Wood burns more quickly. The fully pumped central heating system comes on and off automatically when the fire reaches temperature. Coal and logs are unrestricted in the cottage and there are always plenty. We reluctantly put a coin meter in over a year ago and state in the welcome book we put £20.00 plus in the meter- this is more than adequate for normal use - we don’t ask for money to be put in the meter unless this amount is exceeded. Finally I spoke to these guests on a couple of occasions and asked if everything was ok - they assured me all was fine.
