This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Situated in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, High Weald, this holiday cottage is the ideal escape for family and friends looking for a rural getaway.

This hidden gem lies secluded in a stunning location with panoramic views of Bewl Water literally on its doorstep. A thoughtful conversion of a former hop picker’s cottage, it provides contemporary accommodation of a high standard. Guests can enjoy the comforts of a glowing wood burner when evenings become chilly, and on warmer evenings, twin terraces provide the opportunity to sit back and absorb the lakeside view after a day’s cycling or walking along the plethora of footpaths, and being able to enjoy a sundowner as the setting sun changes the glowing colour of Bewl Water before your eyes. The surrounding Bewl Water is the largest stretch of water in the south east, so you can spend a day fishing, sailing, canoeing or wind surfing. If dry land is more your style, bring your own bicycle (or hire one) and cycle around Bewl - the village of Wadhurst is within easy reach, where pubs, restaurants and shops abound. Many notable National Trust gardens and houses are within an easy drive, including Scotney Castle, Sissinghurst, Chartwell, Batemans, Knole House and Bodiam Castle. Brighton, Rye and Camber Sands are also within easy reach of this little jewel of Sussex heaven. Beach 22 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Absolutely beautiful cottage. Stunning views. Couldn't wish for a more peaceful place. Very clean and comfortable. We just wanted to relax. As our house was being re-wired. Thank you. You both should be very proud of this stunning cottage. See you again. Xx

Set in the most idyllic location, this cottage is the perfect place to forget about all stresses and worries and just relax. The cottage is beautifully warm and cosy with scenes over Bewl Waters from every window. The garden is secure for dogs and the walks start straight from the back door right down to the waters edge. James the host could not have been more helpful . We will definitely be returning - I have never been anywhere quite like it before

We had an amazing time, the cottage is beautiful, the surroundings are absolutely stunning, we couldn't stop getting mesmerized by the views, it is a dream. We have a blind young dog who is quite reactive to sounds and other Dogs, she really enjoyed being there as it is very peaceful and we enjoyed seeing her happy. We will most certainly return. Can't wait for the next time :-)

We had such a wonderful break at Hopper's Cottage last weekend and can't wait to escape to the country again very soon! The hosts are fab and apart from a hello at the beginning of the stay and a goodbye at the end, they leave you to enjoy but are at the end of the phone if you need anything. This is a truly unique spot if you want peace and quiet, no neighbours and only the sheep and the birds for company! Stunning views across Bewl Water too. The cottage has been recreated on the original footprint of the old holiday stay for hoppers visiting Sussex in the hop picking season. The cottage is beautifully equipped with everything you would need including a freezer, luxurious bath and fab shower! So if you want to escape the world, I recommend stocking up on everything you need, unpack and take in the tranquility. If you do need to stock up, Wadhurst village is a 2 mile car ride away and has everything you need with a couple of nice pubs thrown in! The garden is large enough for the dog to have a wonder about and is completely enclosed so he is perfectly safe. Great local walks and Bedgebury Pinetum is only about 7 miles away.

We loved this cottage. It was our first visit and we were not disappointed. The location is out of this world and if you want peace and tranquility then this is the place to go. There are plenty of walks, Wadhurst is the nearest village with everything you will want. The owners are welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. Lastly the view is to die for. I can’t recommend this little cottage highly enough.
