With just being two miles away from the city centre, this cottage is an ideal base for visiting the fantastic city.

Two miles from the city centre, these renovated, spacious 18th century farm buildings stand around a large landscaped courtyard amid open fields. Reached by a 200 yard private drive, they make an excellent holiday base for visiting the city, whilst returning to a country retreat. The city of York offers a variety of attractions - the ancient minster, city walls and beautiful architecture, together with a variety of museums, including the National Railway Museum, Castle Museum and Jorvik Viking Centre. The cobbled streets be-decked with flowers, home to many street artistes, house many interesting specialist shops, restaurants and bars and an open street market, sometimes visited by continental markets. Alternatively take a leisurely trip along the river, stopping at riverside inns. Two golf courses, a sports centre, Waterworld theme swimming pool, theatres, multi cinema complex, bowling alley, all lie within two miles, and there is a large playing field with football nets in the grounds. Racing at York, Thirsk, Ripon, Wetherby and Beverley. Castle Howard with open air summer concerts, 10 miles and the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway at Pickering, 25 miles which crosses the beautiful heather clad moors to Goathland (the Aidensfield of ’Heartbeat’) and Grosmont. Ancient seaport of Whitby with picturesque harbour and golden sands, 45 miles. Scarborough and Filey 40 miles. Shops 1 mile, pub 200 yards.

There was a warm and friendly welcome with tea and coffee and a loaf for toast which was great. The house was well equipped, clean and mostly comfortable and we enjoyed eating outside on the conveniently placed table and chairs with a very pleasant outlook to the well maintained garden area. The games room and sauna and hot tub were fun and the wash room was very convenient too. There was a large playing field to the rear of the property for ball games and a country path near with a plentiful supply of blackberries. We all enjoyed our stay but the only complaint was loud barking dogs at 7:30am. We really wanted a quiet relaxing lie in on our holiday. The nearby road is a bit noisy but these things weren’t a major nuisance once the dogs had their breakfast. Thanks for a lovely visit we enjoyed our stay.

This was our second stay at at Hopgrove cottages as a group of girls. Its a great location for York centre, the house is always clean, with fresh bread and milk when you arrive and the hot tub and sauna is a nice extra would definitely recommend.

The family was made very welcome by the owners of the cottage and the family all enjoyed their stay at the cottage. A restaurant only across the road and supermarkets just down the road.

We have stayed at the Granary several times over many years and, at various times, in the other properties available at Hopgrove Farm and I cannot praise it enough. Being on the outer edge of York, it makes getting to other places in Yorkshire so much easier.Yet, it is but a short hop by car, or via the nearby Park and Ride service at Monk's Cross, into the city itself. One has all the amenities of a city almost on one's doorstep but all the quiet of of the country as well. Two minutes by car takes one to the huge Monk's Cross Shopping centre where one can stock up with anything one wants for self-catering. Across the road is a Toby Carvery. A five-minute drive round the southern bypass takes one to the McArthur Glen outlet - and all around is the magnificent county of Yorkshire itself with so much to visit and see. For anyone who loves Yorkshire, the Hopgrove Farm self-catering complex is hard to beat as a place to stay.

We had an absolutely fabulous time in the Granary. Everything we needed was in there. Lovely and spacious. The owner was so polite and nice making sure we needed everything. Loved the sauna and hottub. Would Definately recommend it to everyone wanting a break away.
