Set within a large landscaped courtyard amid open fields, Little Barn is a beautiful country retreat.

Two miles from the city centre, these renovated, spacious 18th century farm buildings stand around a large landscaped courtyard amid open fields. Reached by a 200 yard private drive, they make an excellent holiday base for visiting the city, whilst returning to a country retreat. The city of York offers a variety of attractions - the ancient minster, city walls and beautiful architecture, together with a variety of museums, including the National Railway Museum, Castle Museum and Jorvik Viking Centre. The cobbled streets be-decked with flowers, home to many street artistes, house many interesting specialist shops, restaurants and bars and an open street market, sometimes visited by continental markets. Alternatively take a leisurely trip along the river, stopping at riverside inns. Two golf courses, a sports centre, Waterworld theme swimming pool, theatres, multi cinema complex, bowling alley, all lie within two miles, and there is a large playing field with football nets in the grounds. Racing at York, Thirsk, Ripon, Wetherby and Beverley. Castle Howard with open air summer concerts, 10 miles and the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway at Pickering, 25 miles which crosses the beautiful heather clad moors to Goathland (the Aidensfield of ’Heartbeat’) and Grosmont. Ancient seaport of Whitby with picturesque harbour and golden sands, 45 miles. Scarborough and Filey 40 miles. Shops 1 mile, pub 200 yards.

Great location for York and for surrounding area Not far off the ring road and close to monks cross park & ride yet rural enough to hear the birds chorus in the morning. Thre are enough amenities and open space to spend a relaxing break on site and the welcome pack mrant we didn't have to go looking for the nearby supermarkets before settling in with a cuppa We would definitely stay again

Little Barn is excellent value for money, spotlessly clean and, although the owners live on site, they are not intrusive. We have 1 recommendation: please put into the website what items / provisions are and are not provided. We brought with us coffee, milk, tea, sugar, bread and a hairdryer, only to find that these are already provided.

John was a perfect host You can either park and ride into York or a cab is £10 ... there is a retail park a few mins drive for your shopping and to fill the fridge ... games room . Board games and the hot tub is perfect at the end of a Xmas shopping day .

Little Barn is conveniently located less than a mile from a Park and Ride, making it easy to get in to the city centre. There is also a Toby Carvery just across the road. Upon arrival we were greeted by the very friendly owner who took the time to show us around and explain how the sauna and hot tub worked. There was also a welcome pack. The accommodation is spacious enough but it is rather tired and in need of some TLC and updating. It is also felt grubby in places, especially the kitchen where the dish rack was stained and the pan scourer was well used. The sofas are also fairly worn out with crumbs in the creases in the leather.

Little Barn is perfectly situated for exploring York and it's surrounding areas. A short 5 minute drive to Monks Cross Park and Ride gets you into the centre of York in 10-15 minutes. There are plenty of options of supermarkets and place to eat. The Toby Carvery is a short walk from the cottage. The hosts were friendly and the cottage cosy. Perfect if you have children in your party as the games room, sauna and hot tub are all on site. There is also a nice field for kicking a football around and ample barbecuing area.

A great little cottage. Would come again. Quiet location. Has everything you would need plus it was a lovely touch to be greeted with basics after a 7hour drive (tea, coffee, milk and bread). Perfect location to explore York. It's situated round the corner (a mile?) from Monks cross retail park (a mini version of lakeside shopping parks) and a park and ride. We didn't have time to use the hot tub but enjoyed the air hockey. Thanks for a great week!

We were welcomed by John and shown around the cottage and amenities. He was lovely and helpful. Great touch with milk, bread, tea bags etc in the cottage and extra towels for the hot tub. Would highly recommend Little Barn for a break away.

Excellent setting and location. Close to ring road for outside York, but handy for park & ride into the city which would be only a 10 minute walk but for the busy road. However 2 mins in the car. Also handy for the large shopping retail park closeby. Converted farm buildings, with great facilities including communal hot tub, sauna and pool table. Nice clean, comfortable and friendly welcome. Ideal for exploring York and Yorkshire. Lovely group of cottages and would certainly stay again.
