It was a strange few days away as Coronavirus hit the uk hard, so that seriously limited what we had planned. The cottage was ok but could have benefit from updating and a better quality of equipment being available, it felt as if only the cast off equipment had been supplied.

In contrast to the last couple of reviews, we loved the cottage and found it very comfortable, well equipped and immaculately clean. We especially loved the wood burner. The cottage is a perfect getaway and well situated to visit lots of interesting places in the area. We found the hosts really friendly and helpful and will definitely be returning next year.

Cottage in lovely quiet location. It could be really nice, cosy and comfortable BUT it lacks any TLC and it needs a deep clean desperately. As it is I wouldn't recommend it.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your feedback. We have always been complimented in recent and past reviews regarding how clean and cosy people find the cottage and so I am genuinely mortified to see this comment. The cottage was refurbished in April 2018 and therefore should be well presented and fully equipped. We use a cleaning company to clean the cottage and will be speaking to them to make sure that the cottage is always cleaned to the high standards that it has been since we took on ownership 15 years ago. I can only apologise and emphasise that this is not our normal feedback.

Parking is a nightmare and only for people whole don’t care for their car. Steps to kitchen are dangerous and no hand rail and very very steep. Not many facilities in the kitchen and decided after trying to cook once that it was better to eat out. Bed very uncomfortable. The whole cottage is tired and needs up dating and repairing. Cracked tiles, mould in en-suite, some manuals to explain how microwave works, wood burner door needs repairing. Also the pictures shown before the booking are misleading also the bedroom was open plan up the stairs so could not block out Tv noise. The living room chair legs were only 5 inches from floor. Heating controls are in owners cottage and I could go on but will never go back again. Definitely not 4 star and over priced. Will add I have been booking cottage holidays over 20 years and it is the first time I have given a negative review.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. I’m sorry to hear that you wouldn’t recommend our cottage and that you had a negative experience. The cottage was last refurbished in April 2018 which included decoration throughout, new carpets and sofa. The cottage dates back to 1890 and therefore isn’t modern and has very much a cottage feel. We will definitely address any issues that have been mentioned however you will see that the majority of our guests have scored the cottage between 8/10 out of 10 with some very positive comments. We realise that most of our guests will self-cater and the kitchen is set up for this - we have received many positive reviews about the well equipped kitchen. Many people find the layout of the cottage adds to the character. The spiral staircase up to the bedroom does create a more open plan feel but the majority of our guests don’t feel that this is a problem. The steps down to the kitchen are wider than average and are again a feature that would be perhaps spoilt by a handrail. Having inspected the property there was a build-up of mildew directly above the shower and a cracked tile in the kitchen that had been missed by the cleaner, both which have now been addressed. There is ample space to park in front of the property. It is easier to reverse into the space (this is explained in the information sent prior to arrival). The sitting room has a double sofa and then a beautiful antique chair which is designed for low sitting. I do hope that the concerns have been rectified and that the overwhelming majority of feedback is extremely positive.
