Fantastic cottage. It was cosy, comfortable, well equipped and spotless. Everything we wanted for a weeks break Quiet location. Great base and plenty of good walks. The landlady was welcoming and helpful. Would definitely return to High Trees Annex.

Very small, uncomfortable sitting area, could not relax at night. Bathroom sink an absolute joke, could not clean teeth properly. Had to lean sideways which made a mess down cupboard doors. Other guests have commented in the book regarding this but, owner done nothing to rectify it. The owner runs a kennel type dog holiday business from her house and when we arrived she was out and the dog she had barked constantly until she returned, we did wonder wether to even get our things from the car. This happened a few times when she went out. I didn't notice it saying she ran this on the site, if it did, my mistake, if not I think it should be as the barking was somewhat annoying. It's ok for a couple of days but, certainly no more. Needs a conservatory on the back for a more relaxing sitting area. Not enjoyable when 2 adults are trying to relax on a 2 seater.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am very sorry to hear you feel stay at High Trees Annex was unsatisfactory, equally that you did not address any problems to me directly as there was every opportunity to do so. Had you done so and felt you didn’t want to stay for the second week of your break, I would have been happy to refund the payment for the second week. As can be seen in previous reviews, I am approachable and always happy to help. Indeed, I tried to help you by trying to track down somewhere that could offer you Christmas lunch at short notice along with details of Christmas type markets. The pictures on the website clearly show the setup of the annex including the two-seater sofa and is accurately describe on the website. As far as the bathroom sink is concerned, it this is to be replaced and moved forward when the annex is redecorated next month. To clarify my business ‘Hounds on Holiday’ is a home from home boarding service for dogs and not kennels. I have had no complaints from any other guests about any noise until now. If that was the case that you heard a dog bark I can only apologise however again you should have addressed this to me personally at the time. For part of your stay, there were no dogs at my property and the property was unoccupied as I was away myself over Christmas. Thank you for comments.

We had a long weekend at High Trees, the accommodation was excellent. As we were visiting family nearby, we weren't actually in the annex for too long on any one day but that would not have been a problem. The annex and garden cater well for a dog owner and the owner will for a small fee dog sit should you need it. We did take advantage of this one day and it made life easier for us not to have to worry about our four legged companion! We would certainly consider using this accommodation again.

The bedroom and bathroom upstairs both have sloping ceilings. My husband wears glasses, and does not judge these slopes well, and bumped his head several times.

Compact but well equipped. Tall people may find the sloping wall in bedroom restricting. Ideal location for touring with lovely beaches close by. As we had a hospital visit in Newcastle we used the bus which was very easy.
