Description

This eco-friendly property has stunning rural views and is just 3½ miles from Rye. Spend a day at one of the many beaches in the area, including Camber Sands.

Escape to this stunning, detached eco-build which is made of Canadian red cedar, and enjoy glorious, sheep-filled rural views across the picturesque Brede Levels. Situated on the edge of the Cinque port town of Winchelsea and just 3½ miles from the medieval market town of Rye. This is an ideal holiday destination for friends and families, with an inviting wood burner for cooler evenings, a galleried landing leading to a balcony offering superb, elevated, picture postcard views and bi-folding doors on the ground floor that open out onto a terrace with an inviting hot tub. Ideal walking territory, with footpaths from the doorstep, or stroll beside the Royal Military Canal, which stretches from almost Hastings to Hythe. Bring your binoculars and head towards Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, which offers five bird watching hides with easy access - hear the nightingale sing in the springtime. The comedian Spike Milligan’s headstone can be spotted in the church yard in Winchelsea, with the immortalized words ’I told you I was ill!’ Take a swim at Camber Sands or Winchelsea Beach, discover 4000-year-old fossilized forests or spot a shipwreck along the Hastings coast. Loved our stay, this is a fabulous house, with a very well thought out layout and amenities. The outlook was wonderful with walking from the door. A 5 min walk up the hill across the field to Winchelsea where there is a good pub (New Inn), small shop and a bus to Rye/Hastings. We were there in the wind and rain but imagined how lovely it would be to be there in better weather with the large patio, and balconies. Also fantastic that such a luxurious property allows dogs - we appreciate that.

We had a great week, especially as the weather stayed unseasonably sunny for the end of October. We visited Rye, Hastings, 3 castles, local pubs, cafes and restaurants, the more energetic ones went for runs over the fields behind Henry Oscar House, wholeness the baby checked out all the drawers and baby toys. We used the hot tub in the day, the evening and the dark....all times good but especially love the lights in the dark. Everything we needed was there and more... If we had known beforehand how great the cycling was from Winchelsea Beach to Rye, would have brought bikes - our fault for not researching it well enough, but a note to mention it would be a good idea. Such a peaceful location with wonderful country view from the panoramic windows and balcony yet walking distance to 2 pubs/restaurants. I would have added some photos but they are on my Google Photos and I am not given that option.

We had a beautiful family holiday at Henry Oscar House. Everything had been thought of (and more!) And the welcome basket was a lovely addition. Beautiful location, and stunning views. Easy to get to places but felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. Would definately return here.
