Fabulous cottage! We arrived on Christmas Eve to find the cottage decorated with a tree and fairy lights, and the fire was laid and ready to light. The owner had kindly left us a Christmas cake, mince pies and a bottle of bubbly. The cottage was bigger than expected, clean, warm and very welcoming. It is furnished as a home rather than a rental making it very comfortable to stay in. During our stay we spotted wild deer and pheasants in the woods at the back of the house and didn't see another person until we went out for a walk. The location is very peaceful and perfect for a quiet get away together. I would happily recommend this cottage and we plan to go back in 2019

If you are wanting a get away from it break then this is it. The cottage is on farming land with walks from the door. The cottage itself has everything you need for a weeks break. The log fire and BBQ are added lovely touches. The woods are small but great for a short walk and longer walks as far as you wish! If you have dogs they will love it just be mindful of farmer moving the sheep along the front of the house. All the local amenities are a drive away so if you want things within easy walking distance this isn't the place for you but if you wanting somewhere remote, peaceful very secluded and owners who just let you escape this is for you! Born in the Borders well worth a visit for beer/gin/cheese/cakes Loved my visit and already looking for when I can return!

Heathfield is in a beautiful setting, only neighbours being the sheep! I love sheep. Also we had regular visits from Mr and Mrs Pheasant though they made themselves scarce when Mr Fox was lurking, first time we have seen a pheasant fly into a tree. The main downside for me was that there was not a shower, I cannot use a bath due to my disability. Our dog was very content, he is getting on now and it was great that we could leave the doors open and he could come in and out when he wanted. We had wonderful weather, but we could only stay out for a few hours for fear of our dog overheating. We had a very peaceful, much needed relaxing holiday. We visited Hawick (pronounced Hoick), Born in the Borders (nice walks here), Newtoncastleton (there are nice walks here too, we just had trouble finding them), Jedburgh (we went to the market except we found out from a local that there is no market, the nearest one is Kelso which is apparently called Jedburgh Market) and Kelso. There is also a lovely park in Hawick that we walked with our dog, there is also a riverside walk in Denholm.

This is a fantastic cottage for those seeking tranquillity and needing to recharge the batteries. It is so comfortable and peaceful cannot recommend enough. Will definitely be back. PS if you have dogs they'll love it even more

Although Heathfield is a lovely cottage, it lacks general maintenance and a bit of TLC. Our main concern was the track up to the cottage which was difficult to negotiate with a normal car, this was not explained to us when booking. The creaking floorboards were also very annoying. The area was very good.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Heathfield. The majority of our previous guests have negotiated the track in a ‘normal’ car without any issues; in fact, this may be the first comment we have received regarding the track. It is a stone track which is regularly maintained. We drive a Volkswagen Golf and negotiate the road with absolutely no problem. The Cottage is painted twice a year, indeed partly painted (two rooms) four weeks before your visit, and the decking was treated the week before your arrival. The Cottage itself was originally a very old building and this character has deliberately been maintained where possible. There are indeed four creaking floorboards in a small area to the rear of the kitchen but unfortunately, this is common with oak flooring and there is little that can be done unless we lift them all, and given it is such a small area we are not considering this. We are glad you enjoyed The Scottish Borders and hope that you continue to have enjoyable holidays in the future.

The most relaxing and nicest place I have stayed. I’m looking forward to re-booking to return. Have recommended it to many friends and family, as great value for money.
