Cottage was very cosy, and well equipped. The owner and cleaner were very helpful. Modem decoration. It would have made the outside more appealing with flower ‘planters’ and hanging baskets. We had bad weather for our 4 days stay, but that would not put me off staying again.

Lodge was very quiet. No amenities on site. Good equipped kitchen but would of liked to have been told to bring washing up liquid, bin bags, toilet rolls etc. plenty of storage space. box with leaflets of places to visit and games and books in a cupboard. Nice touch. Would stay here again.

Although we knew the lodge was remote the nearest village seemed further than advertised. The lodge was lovely and large but there were a few cleanliness issues, black mould in en suite shower and dirty extractor fan, a sock and dirty tissue on radiator behind dining room table, paper behind beside table, loose toilet seat and no battery in smoke alarm and dvd remote. The patio windows were filthy as was the patio table. This is a shame as with a more thorough clean it would have made our stay happier.

On first glance seemed nice, however we only had one bulb out of 3 that worked in the kitchen so it was very dark in their when preparing food. We reported this but it was not rectified. The hot tap on the bath did not work despite a previous visitor logging it in the guest book. We did report this and it did get sorted. But they must have known about it when they tried to use the water to clean the bath!?! The bed was very soft and we both had bad backs by the end of the week. The holiday park it is situated in has no facilities and the lodges generally look a bit unloved.

Hawthorne is a lovely 'log cabin' on a quiet estate of holiday 'log cabins'. It is well furnished and equipped. It is well situated for exploring the north Devon coast and the local towns and fishing villages, but it is tucked away down in the lanes. It suited us but maybe not everyone would agree. We liked the drive out as we regular saw the local wildlife along the lanes. The one inconvenience, was the distance to go to find a local shop.
