Spacious family cottage with open fire and garden overlooking the sea, ideal for spotting harbour porpoises, dolphins and seals.

Ideal touring base for a traditional seaside holiday (pets welcome!)

Situated in the Rhins of Galloway in the coastal village of Drummore, Scotland’s most southerly point, these holiday cottages stand on the shore of Luce Bay with its sand and shingle beaches just across the road. The well-equipped cottages offer stunning views across the expanse of Luce Bay with its white tipped waves and sea birds, beautiful in the summer, but equally spectacular for wave watching in winter. The area is unspoilt, the scenery idyllic, and the seascapes around the Rhins as dramatic as they are beautiful. Attractions include golf courses and the RSPB Scotland Mull of Galloway Nature Reserve where thousands of seabirds nest in the cliff face during the spring and summer. Harbour porpoises, dolphins, seals and otters can all be seen in the area. Logan Botanical Gardens are a must during spring and summer with its beautiful displays of rare and native plants, as are the gardens at Castle Kennedy and Ardwell House. 5 miles north of Stranraer is Cairnryan, home to the Stena Line and P&O ferries which make regular trips to Ireland. A local, well stocked convenience store, café/seafood restaurant and 3 pubs are all within 500 yards.

Chose this cottage because our dog loves to run on the beach and it was only across the road. What is not clear from the photos or description is between you and the beach is a 2 foot high concrete wall with a 5 foot drop to the beach on the other side and no steps. Oh and the beach is all large pebbles unless the tide is out in which case its all small pebbles so not safe for a small dog to run on.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. There is a sea wall, but it actually stops in front of Jura and there is concrete terracing down to the beach. If this is too steep for some people there is a perfectly safe and level access to the beach a few hundred yards to the right of the cottage through the picnic area where there is no sea wall. When the tide is out, there is a lovely and extensive beach again just a few hundred yards to the right. Walk a short distance to the left, around the harbour and there is access to an absolutely huge sandy beach in front of the Ship Inn. The last 4 customer comments on this site all refer to the suitability for dogs, although I understand everyones needs are different and I'm sorry you felt the location wasnt suitable for you and your dog.

Lovely, clean cosy cottage in a beautiful location for those who like peace and quiet. For anyone who prefers somewhere lively with lots of amenities on the doorstep, this is not ideal but we love peace and nice scenic surroundings so the location was perfect for us. Easily accommodated 4 adults, 2 older teenagers and a dog with plenty of room. Kitchen was well-equipped and there was a nice seating area right outside the patio doors from the living room/kitchen area. The beds were very comfy and the bedrooms clean and spacious. There was reliable Wi-Fi, which with teenagers who are surgically attached to their phones, was a must for us! It was great for our dog as there was a beach across the road and there are loads of nice places nearby to take dogs. Drummore itself and the surrounding area are lovely and there seems to be lots of places for a nice meal out, with Stranraer not too far away for bigger shops and more amenities. One thing that puzzled us was the lack of drying space for our laundry. The cottage has a washing machine but as far as drying goes, there was one clothes horse and no outside washing line - not great for drying clothes for 6 people! As a larger family, the lack of a second toilet was a bit of a nuisance at times, and 2 of the adults have some mobility problems and found the stairs a little steep but it wasn't a major problem and we just had to be a bit more careful.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for taking the time to feedback your lovely comments; I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. You are absolutely right about the washing line, the last few rotary type structures have all snapped at the base due to the sea breeze so I’m sorry that facility wasn’t available to you. I am visiting the cottage next week and have 2 proper washing line poles that I will concrete in for the next guests to use.
