Okehampton, the gateway to Dartmoor National Park is close to this thatched cottage, with beams and inglenook fireplace, with easy access to Castle Drogo.

A comfortable and cosy thatched cottage forming part of a wing of the owner’s impressive 15th-century thatched house. The holiday cottage has been presented to ensure a contemporary feel but still retaining plenty of character including beams and inglenook fireplace. The cottage is spread over two floors with a large living/dining area and kitchen, and then up stairs is a double bedroom and a bathroom. Situated outside the village of North Tawton, the cottage makes an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding Devon countryside. The regional town of Okehampton is close by and is considered the gateway to Dartmoor National Park. The town also provides a good range of shops and amenities.
On Dartmoor, there are plenty of walks for all ages and abilities to enjoy this stunning and dramatic area as well as some pretty villages with pubs and tea rooms. Towards the coast there are many fine beaches and coves including Saunton, Woolacombe and Westward Ho! A trip to Lundy Island can be arranged from Bideford pier. There are numerous places of interest close by including the R.H.S. gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. Visit the last castle to be built in England at Castle Drogo (National Trust). There is golf at Okehampton and Ashbury, or you can hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail at Great Torrington. We had a very short holiday at Happy cottage as my Wife was taken ill .Derek and Pippa were fantastic looking after our dog while my wife was taken to hospital, even calling in a neighbour who was a Paramedic. Derek even took our dog for a walk at 11 at night as we were not back from hospital till the next day. The cottage was very cosy and we hope we can go back again soon and have a more relaxing stay. Once again thank you Derek and Pippa for all your help.

Absolutely lovely cottage. Extremely well equiped and very clean. Lovely welcome pack of scones, cream, jam, bread, butter, milk, plus doggy treats, for which we were all very grateful. Pippa went out of her way to welcome us and our dogs and nothing seemed too much for her. The bed was very comfortable and the wool duvet and pillows were a treat, as was the lovely crisp cotton bedding. There is a lovely fenced off area at the back, which was safe for our dogs but they weren't too keen on walking the gravel. The cottage is set in a very rural area with fields all around.....with lots of sheep in, which unfortunately didn't suit our dogs as they just wanted to bark at the sheep. They are used to cows in the fields near our home and we weren't sure what they would be like around sheep, but this didn't spoil our stay as we used the cottage as a base and drove to the coast each day. Thank you so much to Pippa for a lovely stay.

From the first minute we arrived. Everything was perfect. Greeted by the lovely Pippa and our gorgeous welcome pack. The cottage was lovely. Perfect as great base to come back to after a days walking. We would definitely stay here again with the dogs if we came back to explore more of Dartmoor.

Lovely long weekend at Happy Cottage! The welcome hamper with essentials and goodies (and even one for the dog!) was a nice gesture. Would highly recommend for a peaceful, relaxing getaway. Our 6 month old puppy was right at home on the dog bed provided in front of the wood burner. Pippa was very accommodating and helpful.
