We really enjoyed our time in Windermere. Hammer Bank Lodge was very comfortable. The Garden was definitely the highlight and we used the garden every night. The lodge is located just off the main road which gives easy access to explore the surrounding area. I must admit even though it is close to the main road the road traffic noise is not intrusive. If I have one criticism with the lodge we were not provided with essential necessaries like toilet paper etc. Overall I would not hesitate recommending Hammer Bank Lodge to my family and friends.

The hand written calendar dates for the rubbish collection is incorrect and the recycling is starting to pile up outside the property. The main bed mattress was very uncomfortable despite the mattress topper. However, the cleanliness and value for money makes this a good place to stay.

We arrived late on Friday night, and the all house had clearly not been vacuumed. There were hair on our bed sheets and a note on a piece of cardboard informed the dishwasher was not working (it was full of scum really...). There were no lightbulbs on outdoor lamps too. We complained about it all the day after on the phone, and were told new sheets would be delivered in the day and that an engineer would come and repair the dishwasher on Monday. Clean sheets were indeed delivered, although one pillow case was missing... Lightbulbs were installed too. A new tube kit was also delivered??? with a note mentioning the actual one was broken, making vacuuming difficult? Pretty lame excuse considering we didn't struggle at all to vacuum the place ourselves on arrival. Even worse considering the check in is at 5pm and check out at 9am "to give more time for the preparation of the cottage", and that guests are asked to strip the beds and put the sheets in a bin bag. We never heard from the engineer during our stay, and therefore never got a functioning dishwasher. We also noticed in consulting the recycling disposal notice that we were not provided with all the necessary boxes and bags to sort it out properly, resulting in all the recycling from a precedent stay filling one box outside, which seemed not to have been collected on the due date... We could not dispose of our own recycling for the all stay. We were aware the decor and house were old fashioned (although the kitchen had obviously recently been updated) and we thought it fair due to the low price. However no excuses forgive the lack of cleaning, care and not providing the necessary items to the right functioning of the property. A shame as it is a lovely house though. Wouldn't recommend at all, unless big improvements are put in place.
