This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Boasting stunning landscaped gardens with swimming pool and private hot tub, this cottage is the perfect holiday getaway in a fantastic location.

A meandering stream trickles through the stunning landscaped gardens of this 150-year-old detached farmhouse. Nestling in the sleepy hamlet of Barmby Moor (there may be some noise from farm traffic) and set in its own grounds, the property also boasts an outdoor swimming pool heated by solar panels (temperature is dependent on weather) and outdoor 6-seater hot tub. Just under a mile away lies Allerthorpe Common which offers wonderful walks and picnic areas amidst thousands of well kept acres of land. This truly is the perfect holiday location for getting away from it all or discovering local culture.
Scattered amongst the spectacular countryside are many picturesque villages and ancient market towns such as Pocklington, Howden and Driffield. Beverley, capital of the Wolds, is home to a beautiful Gothic minster, old buildings and a racecourse. Described as a jewel waiting to be discovered, the Yorkshire Wolds boast countless villages, ancient inns and historic houses. Burnby Hall Gardens, Burton Agnes Hall and Burton Constable are all close by. Three miles away in Barmby Moor, the Wolds Gliding Club offers trial flights all year round.
Four miles away is the Buddhist Centre at the wonderful Georgian mansion of Kilnwick Percy Hall, which offers lessons and courses in meditation. Aircraft enthusiasts are spoilt for choice with the Real Aeroplane Museum (Selby, 25 miles) where a magnificent Hawker Hurricane and P-51 Mustang can be seen, and the Yorkshire Air Museum (Elvington, 5 miles) with a superb collection of pre- and post-WWII aircraft. The ancient walled city of York is only 12 miles away, and boasts plenty of attractions for all the family, including the Castle Museum, York Dungeons, National Railway Museum, York Racecourse and the famous Jorvik Viking Centre. Golf, fishing and gliding are all available locally. Shops 1 mile, pub 2 miles.

Our family holiday was for 4 generations ranging from 1 to 73 year olds and a dog. The house is well maintained and well equipped. It was a perfect place to have as a base, less than 10 miles to York and approx. 30 miles to a really lovely beach that is suitable for young children and dogs.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay.

This was a fantastically magical week with my three adult children and their families. The front garden was always full of excitement with Wesley Weasel, Stuart Squirrel, Woody Wood Pigeon and Peter Rabbits Friends. The swimming pool and hot tub were enjoyed by all every morning and the nearby Piglet Adventure Farm was excellent for the three grand children, aged 2, 3, and 4. The oldest person in our group was 65 and we all had a marvellous time so fitting for all ages. Although, expensive, I would highly recommend this house for a family weeks holiday.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you - We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the wildlife - we do our best to encourage it and always fill the bird feeders before guests arrive, which of course also attracts the squirrels.

The house had problem with toilets for 13 people. Also it is infested with mosquitoes and flies. Also there was wasp nest which was in one of the attic rooms.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry about the wasps nest, which was in the roof space above the attic and fortunately did not result in wasps entering the house. A pest control company was called out as soon as we were alerted and dealt with the nest successfully. There are 3 toilets in the house which is generally considered adequate for 13 people. We have never been aware of mosquitoes - they don't usually travel as far as North Yorkshire. If doors and windows are left open in the summer then I am afraid flies are likely to find their way in, as the property is in a countryside location. We provide fly spray and an electric sticky board device in case of this eventuality.

The cottage is lovely and has a very authentic feel but is in need of a few repairs and TLC. The shower leaks into the kitchen, not helped by the cracked bath. There is also a problem with ants all downstairs.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for alerting us to the renewed bathroom leak. Our plumber has attempted to remedy this in the past, but after your complaint, we dismantled the entire bathroom and have finally located and solved the problem. There have been no leaks reported since. The bath is not cracked so I imagine you were referring to a cracked tile near the edge of the bath, which has also been dealt with. The ant problem has now been resolved.
